If you drive an expensive luxury car, this might make you squirm: A new study out of Finland finds not only that drivers of expensive cars are more likely to break traffic laws, but they’re more likely to be self-absorbed jerks — and overwhelmingly male.
“The answers were unambiguous: self-centered men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes,” the researchers at the University of Helsinki wrote in a press release. To put a finer point on it, the study was published in the Journal of International Psychology under a surprisingly unscientific headline for an academic journal: “Not only assholes drive Mercedes.”

Correlation does not equal causation... again.
This is a dumb study-—it’s the driver not the car. I drive fast and drive a Hyundai....My friend drives slow and has a Lexus SUV.

Let me point out that those people are also successful, and get the women. Elon Musk comes to mind. The only part of this thread I disagree with is when they say that these men care about being called law breaking jerks. Thats just an other term for Alpha Male.

The reason we have driving stereotypes is because they are true. This one is partially true. Younger men with high status cars break traffic laws all the time. Older men in Mercedes obey the traffic laws to the letter - including going the speed limit all the time and staying a car length or two behind the car in front of them. There are a million other traffic stereotypes that I could go into that are true but I don’t want to get into trouble . . . .
Oh what the hell, I’ll go into them: If you see a car driving slow in the left lane, its almost always an older white woman, a black woman or an older Asian man.
Sheesh! Yet another “groundbreaking” study. I’m so impressed.
But to undertand the real meaning ... follow the research grant money.
Not where I live. Everyone drives like a maniac and the worst have black or maroon old cars with the tailpipe dragging.
And the women are bad too.
I have done a study (without govt. funding) and found that people who do studies are A$$ Holes. Can anyone prove me wrong?
The tiny smart car people break laws too, and maybe kia and fiat drivers just have lousy skills. It isn’t rudeness by deliberate act, they just suck at driving.
I’ve seen rude bmw and mercedes drivers but they aren’t the worst on the road

But seeing what money pits BMW are you can add “stupid” to the characteristics.

I have a Mercedes GLC300 - low end but what the hell - stay outten my way!
I don’t know in what world you all live. But only on very, very few well patrolled roads do drivers come any where near speed limit.
Never had a moving violation ticket in 52 years of driving.
My unfunded study found most accidents are caused by blondes on the phone!
It is my studied observation that any vehicle with an NY tag is a menace to highways.
