Great way to own the city.
Diabetic comas mistaken for drunkenness comes to mind.
The men in blue know only one way to deal with situations they dont understand- greater force.
Autism is a get out of cufffs free card?
Doesn’t matter why...when the police are called they are nobody’s friend. They arrive looking for a crime committed by anyone they think is a criminal. That’s why I prefer to take care of things myself until the situation is under control. Then I call police or fire or ambulance. And it only takes a half dozen of these incidents to make every cop look bad.
Why isn’t training better by now?
Why can’t police be charged with assault? Are they above the law, better than the rest of us?
Omg. And did they almost shoot the poor child? So sad and scary. What is WRONG with these police training programs?
In Ancient Rome, it was illegal to shackle a Roman Citizen for any reason.
I have epilepsy as well. Sad story!
Having been an EMT, I would like to know what the person was charged with.
Those questioning whether those with Autism are above the law are missing the point: No crime was committed. The 911 call requested EMS. Police will respond to calls like this if they are closer than EMS.
Given the fact that this was CA, they probably assumed an immediate OD and thought he was being combative just because, not knowing or believing that he had a neurological condition. The video probably clears that up a little, but it wouldn’t load for me.
I had a doc in the ER see my dialysis access and assume that I was a heroin addict, and I was in for chronic nausea, vomiting, and dehydration. I was 21. As minor as that was, it was infuriating to me, so I can only imagine how this family feels.
Did he have a medical alert bracelet?
My daughter has seizures. I’d be livid if that happened to her!
"Certificate of Release", ha! No doubt, they had her sign it too. "Here, sign this certificate of release please. It just says we are releasing your son". Had she read it, she would have seen she was releasing the Fresno PD from liability.
As a wise person once said, "there are few bad situations that can't be made worse by calling the police". At least the boy survived.
Given mama’s lack of English in the interview, is she REALLY a Californian?
IF the Barneys understood Spanish, perhaps they should have listened to mama before beating on the boy? In any event, I think that mama and son are well on their way to a yuuuge settlement from the city/county/state and the PD!
maybe after eight years of vilification from obummer along with an additional three years of temper tantrums and stompy feet from looney lefties could it be law enforcement is getting tired of dealing with all the bullsh*t thrown at them like the rest of us are...
Did mom provide detailed instructions to the school on his condition, including symptoms, erratic behavior, etc.?
I wonder if the mom’s screaming was effective .... While this is not right, they do not have much time to assess and deal with situations.
I will say that most cops are OK. The last few times I have been pulled over for speeding, I immediately put on my turn signal, pull over as soon as possible.
I roll down the window and place my hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel. All resulted in a warning. One in Kansas did say I was going 5 mph faster than I actually was but was nice otherwise.
