This might be what is known as a cascading failure.

(urope. Why do they put up with this.)
To: DUMBGRUNT
That shouldve never happened. A man up there cutting a structural member with a cutting torch. The only sane thing to do there would be to put cutting charges of explosives all around that rim. Miracle only one dead

We can only hope that he was sufficiently anesthetized before starting work.

Referring to it as a Soviet era stadium only means it was more than 30 years old. I don’t think the politics of when it was built was a factor in how they decided to take it down.
Amazing that it was being held together by one piece of rebar.

More likely post-tension cables, like rebar on steroids.
To: TomServo
Man, he almost made it to the basket.
The amount of snow on the roof probably was a factor too.

I think if you watch carefully, it looks like he made it to the basket, but couldn’t hang on. I think you see him letting go and disappearing.
Ugh. That guy in the base probably feels lucky.

Too bad he wasnt tethered to the crane basket. That would be an osha requirement.

Now I see him with the cutting torch. Took me a few times to find that.
