Homero Gomez Gonzalez, 55, had been missing since January 13, police told CNN Espanol. He was found in Ocampo, Michoacán state, Mexicos President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said during a Thursday press conference.
Lopez Obrador called Gomezs death lamentable and painful and vowed to continue to fight criminal groups believed to be behind his disappearance and death.
An official autopsy will be released at a later date, but a state official said Gomezs body showed signs of asphyxiation.
Mexicos State Commission for Human Rights said they believe Gomez, known as the Defender of the Monarch Butterfly, might have come into conflict with illegal loggers while carrying out his conservation work.

When I was a boy in St. Louis, the Monarchs would fly through. They covered the whole neighborhood! It was really awesome. I learned that they did a circuit and wintered in Mexico in one certain location. It truly would be insanely criminal to cut down that small area. Surely the Mexican govt can keep a small sanctuary there?
Well, well, well. Glad they got to the bottom of it.
You might like this place - it’s only about a 25 minute drive from our house. In fact, the entire park is something else, and I feel very guilty for not taking more advantange of it:

How long ago?
Rarely do I actually LOL, but I just LOL’d.
Was he found in a well, or was it really a cistern?
Too bad a bunch of butterflies didn’t get together and go down there and fly him to safety :)
That place looks awesome. Thanks for the link!
Being it a butterfly conservatory and dealing with delicate insects, you can be sure that there are certain ground rules of interaction. But the butterflies have their own set of rules, so don’t be surprised if one lands on the tip of your nose out of curiousity. LOL The whole of Callaway Gardens is beautful. The conservatory is only a small part of it.
*Drill site location with holes in the ground for the kelly and drill pipe, close to the bore hole (sometimes the cellar).
True that.
One more reason why it’s not a good idea to drink the water
I WOULD love that place! Thanks!

Oh, well.
