GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN/CNN) - A former employee for U.S. Bank says she lost her job for helping a cash-strapped customer who was worried he wouldnt be able to afford Christmas presents for his kids. Emily James, a senior banker at the U.S. Bank call center in Gresham, Ore., says she was working Dec. 23 when a customer called because the bank had put a hold on his paycheck. He said his bank account was empty, and he wouldnt be able to buy his kids presents or afford living expenses for several days.
James says she tried for two days to fix the problem but couldnt get the paycheck to clear before the bank closed for the holidays. On Christmas Eve, she asked her supervisor if she could leave work and fill the mans gas tank using her own money. James says her supervisor agreed, so she met the customer at a gas station, filled his tank and gave him $20.
Just days later, on New Years Eve, James says she was fired over the incident.
I cant change the world, but I can change the world for that person, James said. I would rather my morals align with someone whos more willing to support someone like that than someone whos willing to throw away two-and-a-half years and a lot of dedication. James says she received 13 awards and numerous thank-you notes from customers and colleagues during the two years she worked at U.S. Bank. Now, shes out of a job and no longer has medical insurance. She says some of her medications cost $1,900 out-of-pocket.
U.S. Bank said it couldnt comment because its an employee matter.
1. I doubt shes a banker. Unless bank tellers are considered bankers?
2. What bank hires bankers with blue hair?
3. Im thinking she was fired for something else. Need both sides of the story but looks like the bank isnt going to say. My guess shes a bit too emotional and gullible and this wasnt the first sob story of a person she tried to fix/save and the bank got tired of her.
Yeah I am going to call BS on this.
If there is more to the story, she will be bank to banking very soon, I suspect.
Story says senior banker.

It’s VERY possible that the bank fired her because she was costing them too much in healthcare and/or she often was absent from her job for medical care.
(My former civilian employer in VA discharged 16 people for “varied nebulous reasons” in about 90 days in 2011. - I found it “interesting” that each of the discharged employees were those employees who were chronically ill, had a “preexisting medical condition” and/or were “driving up” the company’s health insurance premiums.)

And maybe they wanted a reason to get rid of because she’s older
I have not liked USBank for many many years now. However, it may be that all the other big huge banks are just as bad.
You know this story is going to be about how she used the banks resources
Spending other peoples money is just never virtuous, much to the contrary to what liberals try to pull off
She left work early. That part of the story does not fit in with her doing everything correctly per the headlines insinuation and her claim
Nor does it fit in with logic. If shes going to assist this guy, why cant she do that on her time. She misused the banks time/resources.
How early did she leave? Was the guy that g AC CE her the ok expecting her to return but did not?
Why no.
No I don’t know that this is going to be about someone using the banks money.
Because we had a story like this recently and the bank employee involved gave her own money and got permission from her supervisor to do it.
So, what I do know as an absolute is that banks do this sort of thing regularly because we read about banks doing this often on these forums.
This is a call center worker, not a banker or a teller.
If she was fired over the incident, it was most likely for violating company policy regarding contact with customers outside of the call center. I’m sure that’s a very serious matter for the call center as I’m sure some people get irate while on the phone and some might even seek to cause harm to the person they’re talking to.
At a guess, the lines are recorded and scanned for key phrases, one of which probably is the location of the call center. The alert likely went up and the order to fire the offending employee was made.
As for blue hair - it’s a call center, customers never see whom they’re talking it.
Well, I wish I hadn’t clicked that.
