He could have walked away at any time

Let me guess, you think if a woman gets raped, she deserved it because "she could have left at any time"? Go crawl back to your cave

A lot of students join these frats thinking they can trust them

... and then the frat members pressure the candidate to drink more than he wants to, effectively losing control

There some truly sick bullies in SOME of these fraternities, just waiting to exploit and abuse an innocent target ... that sounds like what happened here

Of course not. I was commenting on the headline, and I believe I said that I wasn't excusing the frat.

There is a major difference between peer pressure of a fraternity and a violent rape attack.

Glad you were able to divine the reality of the situation from a newspaper article. Have you spoken with Ithaca Police? I’m sure they’ll want to know the truth.

Oh, BTW, violent rape and frat initiations are NOT the same thing.

That’s a pretty good straw argument. I’m sure there is a rape thread on FR somewhere that you can throw your views into.

But it has nothing to with what is being discussed on this thread.

You don’t have any clue “what happened here”

Fraternities have been getting much cleaner over the past several decades. What you are describing may have been the rule from the 1950s to the 1980s but it is significantly different today.

What else has changed is the press each of these incidents garner.

Now, these incidents are big news because they are so rare.

What is not news is the large number of non fraternity kids that die on college campuses from drugs and alcohol. But those deaths don’t fit the overall story line.

Utter garbage.

The young man was old enough to know better than to engage in such idiocy.

This sounds hauntingly familiar to what happened at Clemson a few years ago.
