InStyle has announced its “Badass 50 2020: Meet the women who are changing the world” list. In addition to people such as actress Dakota Johnson, Today co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, and country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves, the list includes three legislators: Nancy Pelosi, Katie Porter, and Deb Butler. All three are Democrats.
InStyle didn’t include one elected Republican politician. Why? It’s not that Republicans don’t have “badass” women among them. Think about Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona. She was the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat. You don’t get more “badass” than that. But because she isn’t a Democrat, she didn’t make the cut.
If women’s magazines truly want to celebrate women in 2020, they should acknowledge women on the other side of the political spectrum for their good work too. This is what the women’s movement is missing, and that includes women’s magazines. They would help themselves if they recognized that while everyone in the magazine's editorial board meeting may be on the liberal Left, its readers are more ideologically diverse.
If this were just one magazine list, it might not matter much. But InStyle’s list follows a familiar script of women’s magazines coming up with lists of top women that feature only leaders of liberal causes while excluding similarly active and impressive conservative women.
Glamour’s 2019 Women of the Year winners included women such as climate activist Greta Thunberg and World Cup star and equal pay champion Megan Rapinoe.
Teen Vogue’s 2019 “21 under 21” list included “gun control crusader” Arielle Geismar, “future president” Isra Hirsi (co-executive director of the U.S. Youth Climate Strike), and “climate champion” Xiye Bastida. There was no obvious advocate of a conservative cause.
It’s not just women’s magazines. This is a pattern on the Left.

Media companies are monopolistic and lack diversity. I think additional government regulation should be considered.
As a thread noted last night, the FCC-regulated TV stations spent last week focusing their coverage on the House Managers making their case against Trump. This week, Trump’s defense team is talking, but the FCC-regulated TV stations have found other things to focus on.
The government should make some effort to make sure that the people have access to both sides.
Democrats love diversity, as long as it’s cosmetic. But when it comes to real diversity, diversity of thought, of opinion, of ideology... no go.
Democrat thugs want to destroy conservative women.
There is not one women’s magazine with Melania on the cover. They had Mooch on the cover of every one.
Another display of liberal media bias.

...So do I. There’s a lib bookshop that serves coffee my wife loves. The front book stand is always Mooch, Obama, Clinton books. I always turn them around. The owner suspects I do it as he keeps an eye on me when I go in but I get er done everytime!
That’s not enough! Go directly to the store manager and demand that they be taken down. Find out who is responsible for the display. Go to their offices and raise hell. Then go to the headquarters of the magazines and confront the big shots who Hate You and and demand the same cover count that MO got for eight years. Of course, they won’t do it because they hate you and your G-d. Welcome to the Ghetto, this is your new home. Learn from history: if you meekly tolerate unfairness and injustice it will increase exponentially. Don’t let them take your guns. They intend to make and keep you powerless to resist. In the end they hope to annihilate you and to destroy your children with you. Do not let this happen. Fight!
Those magazines just don’t get it.
Their sole reason to exist is to provide some eye candy on their covers to distract me while I’m waiting in the checkout line behind some woman who does not speak English and is splitting her payment between food stamps and WIC checks.
For $3.99 a issue they will instruct you how to be a women?
I don’t have time for that. I’m at Weis on my lunch. I just don’t buy magazines I haven’t for at least 20 years. That should be enough.
Let’s be honest here.....the WHOLE ‘WOMEN’S MOVEMENT’ completely ignores Conservative women. I used to be somewhat of a feminist, back in the 80’s. I found that I really wanted to stay home after my son was born and lost many of my University friends. I did work from home, but that didn’t count. Conservative women have priorities different from Feminists but, as we all know, tolerance only goes one way.
LOL. ALL magazines ignore conservatives.

You beat me to it - I was going to make the same comment. It annoys when I see these liberal rags at the supermarket with no Melania on the cover. Ever. For three + years. Melania is beautiful inside and out.
I hope each and every one of them go out business, especially People magazine.
Women’s magazines don’t like women with brains they can’t control them.
