A girls’ basketball coach was identified as one of the fatalities in the crash that killed Kobe Bryant and his daughter Sunday, officials said.

Christina Mauser — who worked at a private school in Orange County, California — was among nine people killed instantly when their helicopter crashed in Calabasas, according to Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley.

“My kids and I are devastated,” Christina’s husband, Matt Mauser, wrote on Facebook.

“We lost our beautiful wife and mom today in a helicopter crash. Please respect our privacy. Thank you for all the well wishes they mean so much.”

Also killed in the crash along with Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were college baseball coach John Altobelli, his daughter Alyssa Altobelli

Exactly. I posited the same question day-of. I doubt that he’s insured for the lawsuits which will follow. His estate is gonna get creamed.

They’ll be plenty of time for the investigation to find out exactly what happened, right now is not the time.

No Kobe was not the pilot. The pilot was 50 years old. Also I read that Kobe had sold this helicopter and now rented it.

Wow, Kobe took a lot of good people with him.
Let’s hear the good stuff about them.
I’m tired already of all the kobe worshiping on the news.

Thank you. I was trying to find that out ever since yesterday.

It reminds me of the crash of the AC of Aliyah in the Bahamas.

She threatened the pilot with loss of his job if he didn’t take off with a way overloaded plane to take them back to Miami.

He gave in and they all died minutes later..............

Also, other helicopters such as those from law enforcement stayed on the ground that day due to the intense fog.

It’s tempting to say that it was unnecessarily risky to fly a helicopter in that weather but fog is not unusual during winter in some parts of CA. Driving a car may well be statistically more of a risk.

All the money you could need, a happy family, years of life ahead of you, the ability to charter a helicopter to take you places.

None of that protects you from something like this.

He and I are the same age, and boy did this really gut-punch me.

Yep, watching the Farmer's Insurance Golf Tournament a few hours to the South it is obvious that the marine layer / fog would make flying hazardous, even the hang glider folks were afraid to go off the cliffs.

Pilot was NOT Bryant, there was heavy fog and the pilot requested special clearance to fly in the fog.

Most were not flying due to conditions.
