WASHINGTON — Democrats stepped up their calls on Sunday night for John Bolton to testify at President Donald Trump's impeachment trial after an explosive new report alleged that in his unpublished book, the former national security adviser said Trump personally tied Ukraine aid to an investigation of the Bidens — an account that conflicts with the president's.
"John Bolton has the evidence," tweeted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
According to the manuscript, as reported by The New York Times Sunday night, Trump told Bolton that nearly $400 million in aid to Ukraine would not be released until that nation offered assistance with probes into Democratic targets, including former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
NBC has not verified the report, which cited multiple sources familiar with Bolton’s account, or seen a copy of that manuscript.
The contents of that manuscript were described as a rough account of how the former Trump official would testify should he be called as a witness in the Senate trial, which is currently underway. The prospect of any new witnesses has been viewed as unlikely, given most Republicans reluctance to accept additional testimony.
Hill Democrats on Sunday said the new report highlighted the urgency of a Senate request for Bolton's testimony — a move which would require several GOP votes.

The NYT covered this in more detail. Bottom line is that Bolton claimed that Trump PREFERRED that Ukraine hold corruption investigations but in the end did not make it a requirement for aid. You can’t impeach for having a THOUGHT.

As far as I am concerned, even if Trump said straight up that ‘I am linking your receiving US tax dollars to you cleaning up corruption in your own government and in your dealings with American politicians’ I would be perfectly fine with it. Biden is an absolute piece of scum, and always has been a slimy politician.
Just a trick. NYT publishes a fake article and all the dems cherry pick it. Says right in the article that no one has been given any info on the book.

BUTT, if the aid was tied to a Biden investigation then why did they get the aid without an investigation?
It’s not too late for Schiff to get a House subpoena for Bolton.
He’d just have to write up some new article of impeachment and have Nazi Pelosi send it over some time in the near future.

That didn’t take long
The facts are that none of this actually happened. The Ukraine got there money, there were no investigations by the Ukraine and there was no quid pro quo. The Ukraine’s never knew that the money was held up and it was for next years budget anyways.
So what Bolton has to say on the matter is immaterial to the facts. The facts speak for themselves.
It doesn’t matter what John Bolton’s book says. It would only be relevant if Zelensky or some other Ukrainian official had written the book. The private discussions of the President with his advisers are supposed to be privileged so that honest decisions can be made.
Bottom line, the aid was released once the President was reassured that Ukraine was on the road to cleaning up its act. This is a total non-story.
Funny how the “evidence” comes AFTER the “prosecution” rests - isn’t it?
