Which is it? Or is it celebrated because someone else is paying for the perpetual surgeries so they can lead regular lives and enjoy pride status? If some people dont need or want treatments, great. But if they need and want treatments, what's it to the dwarf community, unless it's actually a cult of victimhood concerned about potential escapees.

This nonsense about celebrating and taking pride in disorders is truly deranged.

This is like the insanity which says deaf people should not seek treatment for their hearing, but rejoice in their disability. If a child is born with some trait which will keep him from attaining normal height, that child probably will want to get any treatment which can help him, as will his parents. And that's all that matters. What some gaggle of outsiders thinks is irrelevant, no matter how tall they are.

Same battle is going on in the “hearing impaired’ (aka deaf) community, especially at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Founded in 1857, its original name was the Columbia Institution for the Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind.

Recent advancements in hearing assistance technology and childhood medical procedures have given hearing even to children genetically deaf. This has caused this same uproar in their community as here with the growth impaired.

I can see both sides and feel that there is no universal solution!

I am just glad they brought out HGH treatment back before people went totally insane.

A couple of friends of mine got treatment at what was just about the last moment and managed to grow a few more inches that left them short but within normal parameters for an adult.

Now days they would probably have to go through counseling, their parents would be sued and treatment would have been delayed until it was too late.

Things will get even more contentious when parents of normal-statured kids, not content to bribe colleges for fake grades, press doctors to use this discovery to help their kids become potential basketball stars and possibly more successful actors, politicians, etc., to take advantage of the traditional cultural bias favoring height.

And so, the shorts will still be short, relatively speaking.

There have been dwarf and genetically deaf couples who have terminated pregnancies of normal babies, and others who have terminated affected babies.

My first wife was only 4'10". In some ways, it was kind of cool (I'll leave the details to your imagination). But, it also turned out that she was also a pissy little tree gnome from birth (sometimes you never discover these things until after they get the ring in your nose- um, I mean on your finger), so I had to trade her in for a taller model.
