I’m a Bears fan, still, and I hated Tarkentan.
He had Bud Grant, a great coach. We had the likes of Abe Gibron, and Neil Armstrong. Neil was famous for “always” running when we were like 2nd and 9 yards on the 50 yard line.
Gibron, was worse and noted for, run left, run right, incomplete pass, punt.
They won because of great team efforts. I'm really surprised they haven't spent the last 10 years working to replicate that simple formula for winning against superior teams in the NFL:
1. Build a dominant offensive line, and you'll give any decent QB a chance to look like a star.
2. A great pass rush can overcome any deficiencies elsewhere on defense.
Eli didn’t beat them twice, only once.
David Tyree beat them the other time.
I've been a Steeler's fan since my first game in 1951 when the Steeler's tied the Giants 13-13 in a season that was less than stellar.
if you are disappointed with 2 Super Bowl Rings, think of all the other teams and fans that never even got a single victory.
How about the Bills and Vikings with EIGHT losses?
I'd have to shoot myself.
the Bills went offfffer.
Dat means 0 fer 4.
Now dat's puken blood, laying face down in the hash browns, at Mastoris Diner in New Joisey, at 4:30 AM after sucking down 13 Grey Goose Dirty Martinis in Mid-Town Manhattan.
And the only remembrance you have of the whole event, is your credit card receipt with the 50% tip {BIG SPENDER}.
Sounds like you are very intimate with situation....LOL
You and me.
50 years of heartbreak and counting.
Or waking up at 4:00 AM in the bed of a pickup truck after a night full of Tennessee moonshine, climbing (falling) out of the truck and going back to sleep in the gravel because it was more comfortable...:^)
Eli was very good, not great. Always a gentleman though.
LOL! Abe Gibron! I haven’t heard that name in years! He was a critter, wasn’t he? (The Sixties and Seventies were full of critters in that sport!)
Yep. I've settled down a whole lot in my older age, but there were days that turned into weeks and the country and western singers made songs about my exploits, {or so they tell me}.
Won as many SBs as his brother.
Also, unlike Peyton, he actually beat the Gators, twice.
LOL...I salute you!!!!!
Phillip Rivers had better stats, just no post season success.
Rivers............................Manning
228 games played..................236
224 games started.................234
123-101-0. Win loss the record....117-117-0
4908 passes completed.............4895
7591 pass attempts................8119
64.7 completion percentage........60.3
59,271 passing yards..............57,023
397 touchdowns....................366
198 interceptions.................244
Better stats but Phillip is not going to the Hall of Fame
I think engineering that trade to the
Giants was bush league and his ju ju
career should have been championshipless
Then again the biggest scoundrel ever was BB
for abandoning the Jets after taking
a mill or so from Hess, he deserved even less
Heh... Eli got benched, spent a year there, then retired, doesn't sound like "his way" at all. :^)
You see Cousins yesterday? LOL
