The Russian River turned red. Somehow that seems appropriate.

I know you’re not supposed to cry over spilled milk.

But is it OK to cry over spilled wine?

Possibly an insurance claim for bad wine.

I visited a winery and observed very large plastic silo tanks outside full of wine. I went in and asked why? And how do they stop oxidation in plastic tanks?

They explained that the government came in with a program to lower insecticide use. They released lady bugs in the vineyard.

Problem was, the mechanical grape harvesters picked up the lady bugs and they went through the press, destroying the entire harvest.

The wine was unpalatable.

California math

According to the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, which was notified of the accident on Wednesday, about 20% of the 97,112 gallons spilled were contained.

Estimates showed anywhere between 46,000 and 96,000 gallons reached the Russian River.
