The Last Navarroite

The Last Navarroite

Navarro County, Texas, has been central to my family. Family names were all over the place: Lee, Hugghins, Eppler, Mayo, Spurrier all sprinkled among the county's towns: Corsicana, Kerens, Chatfield, Barry, Blooming Grove and all parts in between--

Though I, along with my mother move all over tarnation in the 1950s and early 1960s with my father in his construction careen along with those family members who worked for my dad. Yet we always came back to Navarro County to visit and/or recharge.

In 1966, mom and dad bought a house in Kerens to stay. As the years passed my dad and mom's generation passed away as did they in 1971 for dad and 2001 for mom. Others in the family moved away for school and jobs.

Nowadays there are none of my family names (Lee, Hugghins, Eppler, Mayo, Spurrier) left in Navarro County. They have all either moved or passed away. Yet I am still here at 72, the last of our family that remains.

In 2008 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and while my doctor did not reveal his thought until years later, he believed I had less than a year to live. Yet I beat it and am alive today but now not totally out of the woods.

Yesterday I was scooped top and bottom where they found a mass that may be esophageal cancer. Strange what goes through you when told you may have a fatal disease-- The first thing that came to my mind was that my favorite actor, Humphrey Bogart, died from it. "If I have to go, at least it is a cool way to go."

After a sleepless night I have come to peace with it come what may. I will fight it with all my might. That said, I hope I can keep my spirits up and the black dog side away.

I will attempt to take the same line as Mark Twain in his later years when he said: "I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened."

So in closing, "Here's looking at you, Bogie--"

Prayers up!

I’m the last of my line, the last person born with my last name and I never found the right woman. Gets lonely that way but that is the breaks of life!

So in closing, "Here's looking at you, Bogie--

And here's honoring you FRiend. As Rush said, "Life is like a roll of toilet paper ... the further along, the faster it goes." Getting old and worn is tough. It sneaks up on us.

But it sounds like you are handling your situation, and things might turn out better than you think right now. Take care and take every day - one at a time, which is really how it always is, even if we don't know it.

Received an e-mail from a first cousin of mine who marches ever so proudly to the liberal drumbeat out in California's la-la-land pledging all his support in my battle over ill health.

While we have argued politics for years and years, he would get his feelings hurt and never want to speak to me again. Yet after a while he would contact me again to chat until once more he got his liberal feeling hurt. Wash, rinse, repeat—

So I answered his e-mail as follows with edits to keep out his name:

The world we grew up in the 1950s and early 1960s had its flaws but as far as I an concerned was a happy time. The principles, values and morals I got from my father and mother are as clear today as back then. As you know the Democratic Party was damn near the rule in those days here in Texas but in truth and I even believe you would agree that the Texas Democrat Party back were almost 90% Conservative against the 10% that followed liberal Ralph Yarborough and they would almost to the man be Republicans today.

You see, we Republicans follow the principles, values and morals set forth by the forefathers that created the United States and wrote the Constitution. As an example, about gun control we do not demand that any one person own a gun. It is their right to own one and keep it for the personal defense if they wish. If one does not want one and wished to rely solely on the police to give them protection. that's fine also.

Now, your side of the room demands I give up my right to own any gun they feel is dangerous, i.e. so called ‘assault’ rifle that just look mean but are no different from many other semi-automatic ones in the ability to kill game or bad guys—

And those of us who disagree with your crowd are branded to be as evil as Hitler.

Your side wants no bail for bad guy who can kill and kill again after being released with no cash bond. Your side also wants open borders and if so, what the hell is good about being a citizen? How can you have a nation if there are not borders? Your side creates ‘sanctuary cities’ where Federal Immigration Laws are rejected and not enforced by the locals. You know the southern states tried something along that line about a hundred and sixty some odd years ago and over 600,000 died horribly before the issue was decided that Federal Law is the law of the land. Does your side really want that to happen all over again?

Your side feels a woman can have her unborn child murdered at any time including as they are about to be born. I know how that feels for in my youth I once paid for an abortion because she did not want to have a kid then as she was married to someone else. She made the decision and I went along with it but there is not a damn day that goes by that I do not morn the death of my only child that was paid for by me!

Yet anyone who disagrees with abortion on demand is again a no count a-hole and again evil. Matter of fact your side constantly puts any opposition in the evilness realm. Watch TV the past few days and see how your side places anyone in the Senate who supports Donald Trump as dastardly folk covering up for a man who is again more evil that Hitler—

I, as a Conservative Republican, have no problem with disagreement on the political front but your Democratic Party side does not just disagree, they paint me and my ilk as evil son-of-a-bitches intend on nothing good.

My side wants to get along and have every one do as they wish under the Constitution as written while your side want to dominate, demand and control every single quarter of everyone’s life to do as they wish and “only” as they wish.

I love you, and will always do so. I appreciate your offer of support in my battle to improve my ill health, but my respect cannot hold forth as long as you tread the current liberal Democratic Party path of making me and fellow Republican the scum of the earth for our views.

In the forlorn hope you will some how understand, I am

Always your loving cuz,

Danny

I wonder how, and if, he will respond--

Well, my old Cuz answered as follows on Facebook:

Danny Lee Me thinks I am tired of hearing Republicans and Trumpists complaining about being persecuted. Our President sends out scores of tweets daily calling Democrats and anyone who disagrees with him the most scurrilous names. He acts like a schoolyard Billy intent on smearing people with lies. Sadly many of his supporters do the same. He learned these tactics from Roy Cohn who was Joseph McCarthy's chief counsel. He served as Ronald Trump defending him when Trump was charged with violating the Fair Housing Act in 1971. Trump settled out of court in 1975 but was charged again for violating terms of the settlement 1978. Trump adopted Cohn's tactics of judiciously attacking anyone who might be perceived as an opponent of enemy. Nuff history for now. Look it up it's a fact.

My reply was:

You know, Old Cuz, when I recently answered your recent e-mail I made a small bet with myself. I bet that you would reply with an attack on Trump's tweets that fought back and, of course, hurt you and your liberal ilk's feelings.

Yeah, I won that bet, hands down. You Democrats are so damn predictable. When anyone does not walk in lockstep with you, attack them accusing them of just what crimes you are always committing.

Whereas you Democrats have been scheming to overthrown the 2016 election from day one all the while calling Trump and any and all his supporters the deplorable scum of the earth worse than Hitler all through the 2016 campaign.

It gets old and has been old for years before Trump even started running for President. The 3 broadcast networks, CNN, MSNBC, New York Times & Washington Post all parrot the same slime that those who do not follow the Democrat Party line are sub-human and not worth listening to under any circumstances.

Well the laugh is on you and your fellow left wing campers as the rating for your liberal cohorts is way below Fox where at least the public can get something close to the truth in reporting.

I hope you enjoy your vacation yet if when you come back you plan on offering up any more of the same "We didn't do anything bad, YOU in the GOP started it!" crapola, save yourself the trouble. I don't need it as I have enough on my plate without any more smell of manure lingering on-- I can do without any more of your "Adam Schiff" facts!
