If the reports are true that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends on expressing support for the campaign that Russian President Vladimir Putin is conducting against Poland over the past few months, then it is a bad joke at the expense of the victims of the Holocaust, and its survivors, in whose name world leaders are gathering on Thursday at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial center in Jerusalem.
At the center of Putins campaign is the accusation that Poland caused the outbreak of World War II, while minimizing the large role played by the Soviet Union.

I can't imagine Bibi supporting Putin over Poland, or that he would conclude Poland is more culpable than the Soviet Union for WWII.....???
How is Germany not the culprit?
“” “” I can’t imagine Bibi supporting Putin over Poland, or that he would conclude Poland is more culpable than the Soviet Union for WWII.....???”” “”
Really? I can’t imagine the opposite. Although this paper is anti-Netanyahu and why are somehow exaggerating it.
Poland was responsible for the outbreak of WWII the same way Archduke Ferdinand was responsible for the outbreak for WWI...
Directly it wasn’t responsible at all. Nor did Soviet Union.
Germany and Japan are responsible.
But then if you are somehow creative and political in your reading of history you’d easily find the factoid to blame either Poland or Soviet Union.
Poland has it’s part of bull to smear and so does Putin.
Both are factually right but biased in their opinion.
Putin HEAL THY Stalin SELF
“People in Glass houses shouldn’t be raging idiots with a shotgun” (Whats that in Russian ???)
Archduke Ferdinand's assassination and the invasion of Poland lead to two world wars.
Who started the Soviet-Polish war?
Why do you think the WWII started in Poland and not in Czechoslovakia?
Reasonable answers to these questions would show that interwar Poland is not an innocent lamb it tries to portray itself.
Also it would be interesting to research an ‘Intermarium’ concept and how the Polish politicians tried to pursue it in 1930s when Hitler took power.
Churchill called contemporary Poland ‘a prostitute’ and ‘a greedy hyena of Europe’. Why?
That’s a nice analogy but funny thing is that the Polish president started the discussion and everybody is focused on Putin’s reaction instead.
Pilsudski was as wary of the Germans. He was quite a nasty figure from a Russian perspective for obvious reason but still respected both in the West and in the East. That can’t be said about his followers.
In fact Stalin met with Wlad Sikorski to discuss how the Soviets could help him. Sikorski position was he wants armaments but doesn’t plan to fight in Poland and wants to fight alongside the British in Palestine instead. Stalin has taunted him with a modified phrase Lawrence of Arabia used to insult Prince Feisal. That worked and Wlad sent some guys but it didn’t work that well so he resorted to helping the Brits in Palestine. And we all know what the Brits mostly did in Palestine later in war. To expect Israel to side with official Poland is silly in light of that.
I have a problem with the last sentence. It might be factually true but not supported by facts.
At the very best the Polish-Soviet war a preemptive war and it is really hard to claim a moral high ground in such.
Another point is that Lenin granted Poland independence in 1918 after centuries under Russian control. Let’s say the idea that he was going to take it back as a justification of an aggressive war by Poland in 1919 is... far fetched.
It is especially far-fetched in light of facts of existence of Intermarium concept which required Polish annexation of Lithuania and Ukraine.
Once again, the problem of Polish propaganda is that it denies that the Soviets maneuvers in 1939 were defensive in nature and weren’t in alliance with the Germans.
Yet, they themselves use the very Soviet arguments to justify their unprovoked attacks on Ukraine and Czechoslovakia.
As for the later I have no idea why it is not counted as a starting point of WWII. Poland and Germany did to the Czech exactly the same thing the Soviets and Germans did to Poland later.
True, the Polish had some claims to the Czech territory but then the Soviets had their to the Polish territory. The latter were captured from Ukraine in an aggressive war Poland has started.
Another important point is a semi-official Polish Doctrine meaning any Russia regardless form of government is a threat to a Polish state. Pilsudski had his vision to implement it. His successors planned to rely on Hitler in it and it was a short-sighted take. Nothing in Hitler’s book indicated Poland had to be treated differently than Russia.
That sounds a lot like Bill Clinton's parsing of the language, It depends on what the meaning of the word is is.
Nevertheless, a war that happened around 1920 which resulted in a peace treaty between the warring parties is not a justification for Germany and the Soviets deciding to split Poland in two at the end of the 1930's. The only rationale was revenge.
Bill Clinton is irrelevant on this issue.
The point is double standards should not be applied to history.
The rationale for USSR was to secure the Western flank producing a buffer zone in the future war with Germany.
The rest were secondary rationales and if it was revenge why not. I believe revenge is a wrong term.
What was a rationale for Polish invasion of Czechoslovakia?
What Jozef Lipski was talking about saying: ‘Hitler deserves a monument for solving a Jewish problem for Poland’?
So you’re taking the words of a few bad Poles to smear the whole country?
They are top government officials. And who smears the country? We are talking about double standards. Modern Polish government needs to stop talking about this stuff at every corner. And if they are smearing other countries over things committed by people who are long dead they need to admit mistakes of their predecessors too. Or better be constructive and discuss things which are more recent or real problems to get solved today.
Hmmm. So expelling Jews to Africa wasn’t antisemitic? Really? Too bad the British turned the refugee ships around and it didn’t work anyway.
I’m only reporting what I find; I have no need to spin the truth.
