I cannot go into details because I don't want to harm the innocent parties involved, but here is the basic true story:
My workplace is exceedingly liberal. A few conservatives, but we're outnumbered. I don't hide my views, but I also don't get in fights with others. Honestly.
Seven or eight months ago, maybe longer, I was told my comments offended people and could get me fired. I asked what the specific comments were, and no one could tell me. The response was basically "We all have heard you say things..."
A few days into the new year, I was again read the riot act, told that if I offend anyone else I will lose my job. One of the bosses (there were two) told me not to even talk about the weather or sports. Only work related words should be coming out of my mouth.
I told them I have been very careful about using any language that could be construed as offensive. I asked again for what exactly was my offense. No one could give me a quote.
So, I am doing my best to watch out. I am a good employee and have been that a long time.
What I think I'll do this week is wear RED (not a hat of course LOL) during my work hours. The red will be in solidarity with MAGA. I will do my best to remain quiet.
All true. Unfortunately, my battle was with a big one. I should have said that we are ruled by fortune 50 corps. Look at who owns the media now as well. I wish Trump would take some anti-trust actions against those corps that have swallowed up the bulk of news outlets. It’s kind of chilling when you think of all the media power in the hands of just a few large corps. Rule the narrative, rule the people.
I had a supervisor once that every time he would call me into the office I’d take a small recorder out of my pocket and set it on the desk and say....you don’t mind if I record this? It was pretty funny to watch his attitude change every time. We despised each other and he would’ve gotten rid of me if he could have.
IDK. I’ve seen companies implode when their key tech staff leave.
When working with some snowflakes, even disagreement on a technical matter can be an offense - even while keeping things strictly professional. One such case:
One engineer, a woman, insisted on using a certain type of flowmeter which would have been entirely inappropriate for the application. It did not matter that the manufacturer themselves said it would not work, same for the client’s maintenance engineer. Both the manufacturer and the client’s maintenance engineer agreed that my choice was best, so that was what was installed. Well, she did not like the results, claimed that I was completely wrong, etc., and she installed her meter downstream of mine. The measurement from hers was pure noise - unuseable. But it was still my fault, and I got called before HR. I oppressed her, I “couldn’t work with people”, I was hostile, blah, blah, blah. Some of the other engineers and the operations and maintenance people were wondering how that conclusion was arrived.
It was clear that engineering company had become a “reality free zone.”
I went to another engineering company shortly afterwards.
Make ‘em fire you. Police escort out the building. The whole enchilada.
Everyone needs to do it once.
Its not a moral stand unless you take it.
That’s my point.

The HR department at one big engineering firm terminated any employee who did not participate in the United Way scheme, even during the bad publicity of Aramony having his hand in the cookie jar.
Yes, when some or many key tech specialists leave, it can often be the end. But it’s rare when a single individual is that important.
it’s not about being decent, that is lukewarm, will be spit out. we are alive at the pleasure and for the purposes of God be it in the USA or anyother spot in the world. Unless you don’t believe in Jesus. then go ahead and try to be decent.
