If You Can Find a Better Car Than Lee Iacocca’s Personal Chrysler LeBaron, Buy It

In a 1982 commercial promoting the LeBaron, Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca famously declared, "If you can find a better car, buy it." A big boast, to be sure, but Iacocca had a lot to be proud of. Cars riding on its front-drive K-platform—like the LeBaron—saved Chrysler from death, helped the company pay back a government bailout in short order, and made a celebrity out of Iacocca. Now, keep all of this in mind when you consider this car here.

It's Iacocca's personal 1986 LeBaron Town & Country convertible, and it will be auctioned by Bonhams in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Thursday, January 16. If you can find a better car, buy it.

Will they also be auctioning Lee Iacocca‘s Ford Pinto?

I have taken an oath that my next car will not be smart, won’t have a computer or a key that costs $200 to replace.
Something that any Gomer can fix in an hour or two, no matter what’s wrong with it.
A 1986 Chrysler doesn’t sound like a bad idea...just the auction part doesn’t appeal to me!

Convertibles had all but disappeared from American automakers until this one appeared.

“A family friend purchased the infamous Oldsmobile Diesel from that era. Nothing but trouble from Day 1.”

Next to the Lada, that was the worst car ever sold.

I would buy it for $250 and flip it for $1500.

The navy blue K cars were the standard USAF staff car throughout the 90s.

Most were blue with a white vinyl top.

That car still makes my skin crawl to this day.

There were a lot of bad cars built in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Don't just blame the auto industry, those were just real bad years that gave us disco, bell bottom pants and big afros............

I always wanted a station wagon with faux wood siding as the family car.

Yeah, a woody. They tried to sell that kind of wagon but there was no need in the marketplace. Guys have often had a woody.

I had a 1957 VW beetle that ran on 3 cylinders. That was a better car than a KCar, any KCar.

Not sure, but I understand that John Voight the periodontist’s LeBaron is a sweet ride.

One of those telemarketers for extended auto warranties kept calling my brother and finally he engaged them and acted all excited and happy, oh they were happy as a clam until they got to the part about getting his car information. When asked he said he had a 1976 Ford Pinto that only has 225,000 miles on it! Then nothing but cussing as they hung up on him...

He once got a scammer trying to get his credit card information and told them his wife had their card but he would give them her number, he would love to win the big prize they were offering. They eagerly listened as he read off her number and said I look forward to hearing from you! In about five minutes they called back and were furious and now it was a three way call going down.

His “wife’s” number was actually the FBI’s number and the scammer was livid, they are on the line for what you did! My brother said but didn’t you forget you are the thief trying to steal my money. Lots of cussing and profanity and then he says to them, does your momma know you are a dirty thief, is she proud of you? More profanity and all the while he is hearing from the FBI line nothing but hysterical laughter. Finally the scammers just hung up.

Yep. They took a standard gas engine and punched it up to 22:1 compression. What could go wrong?

The car survived the fire and a squeeze between two semi trucks.

Whatta car!!!

“YOU’RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!!!”

“Thank you!”

“How could he know which way we are going?”
