Off-duty Secret Service agent shoots and kills dog on a leash in Brooklyn
NY Daily News ^ | 13 Jan 2020 | KERRY BURKE

The agent, whose name has not been released, was turning the corner from E. 8th St. onto Caton Place in Windsor Terrace about 9:45 p.m. when he came across a man and his girlfriend walking with a female Belgian Shepherd.

Police said the agent told investigators that the dog charged at him. And in a statement to The Daily Beast, the Secret Service alleged the dog was unleashed.

In answer to a request from The Daily News to clarify the characterization of “unleashed” since The News has a photo of the dog’s body at the scene with her leash still attached, a spokesman for the Secret Service said it “will not have further comment.”

I’m with you on this one. A lot of dogs will strain on a leash at passersby out of curiosity/friendliness. That’s not “charging”. This puke was just itching to plug something. I’d have to take a serious bite before I’d shoot man’s best friend.

Something tells me that he would have preferred not having to deal with the paperwork and the hassle associated with the use of his gun.

...after all, this is the Fake News reporting the case.

Okay, anyone here believe your .gov overlord? If so, raise your hands...

(Surveys the Freepers...)

None? That's what I expected.

To be legal in most cities leashes have to be attached at both ends. “Under control” is a common phrase.

Also, leashes can be attached after shootings.

This was Fear Strike Syndrome.
It wasn’t some dog coming over to say hi.
Ever been attacked by a Great Dane with Fear Strike?
I have and if I had been armed, it would have been a dead dog.

It has happened to me several times.
I actually warned the owner that if I was armed, their “sweet thing” would be dead.
Fear Strike is easily visible.

The dog backs up and then lunges.
Its hereditary from years of in-breeding.

“too emotional”

Perhaps, but it is unfortunate you apparently never enjoyed the companionship of a pet.

“And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the ... of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over the beasts and over all the earth” ...
Genesis 1:26

Also, could you point to the works of Marx: “to use emotions about animals to stir up the masses.”???

the FBI agent who shot a boy scout in the face in a road rage incident.

Not something I’d forget, two high school kids in the car and he shoots the male driver in the face.

IIRC...Wrong car, wrong suspect, claimed a garbled radio transmission?

This is simply a property crime.

The agent needs to pay up.

My veterinarian said one of the reasons for lack of oversight in the Chinese dog treats sickening and killing pets, is you can only sue for the original cost of the dog.

Hmmm... was anyone holding the leash when the dog charged? Enquiring minds want to know.

Yep. That is the unanswered question. I don’t know enough of what happened to go off blaming the agent just yet.

A) we either got the facts and it was the way the story made it sound. Another government macho ass with a gun.

or

B) there’s more here and it’s not being reported.

I’m am inclined to go for “A” because of the SS response(s). They just don’t pass the smell test.

Discharge of a live firearm on a public street with people around is something that is only supposed to happen if the threat or situation is VERY dangerous and severe. The risk of collateral damage is just too great. It isn’t like TV. You gotta have a damn good reason for shooting a gun with bystanders around. The SS response doesn’t indicate that. Just the opposite. Discharge of a firearm on a public street should warrant a real investigation.

I carry and I also know how fast dogs are. It is highly unlikely that the dog jumped off the leash a few feet away and he whipped out his gun and hit it. Way too cut & dry. My daughter’s dog could take off from 15 or 20 feet away and take you down long before you could pull the gun AND hit her. It ain’t that easy.

“This was Fear Strike Syndrome.”

Yeah, it was a “fear strike syndrome” all right... on the part of the thug with a gun and badge. Pussies like this are supposed to guard the president? And yes, I had a part of my 9 year old ass chewed into by an alpha German shepherd in a free roaming pack many moons ago. Also, I had some harrowing moments with dogs delivering US Mail, again many moons ago. Never had an urge to kill them.

“If this guy can’t handle a couple walking their dog without drawing his weapon, maybe he shouldn’t be in law enforcement.”

Lucky for him NY is not more of a CCW state, or that SS agent might well have found himself laying in his own pool of blood.

Wasn’t a road rage incident. Feebs had a drug informer in tow, who missed identified the car, different color from his previous description. The two feebs approached from different sides, screaming different conflicting orders, “Hands out where I can see them!” from one side and “Hands on the wheel!” understably the Eagle Scout was confused and terrified. The feebs carbine was fired from the car window into the boys face, horrific damage. The G clamped down on media coverage after boys identity was revealed, agents remained unamed. Good luck searching for the reporting on the web.

This is not simply a property crime, regardless of how little or how much you value a dog’s life.

This “highly trained” LEO discharged a firearm on a public street with bystanders around. That is a very serious matter. Regardless of what he was shooting at and what your opinion is of his target.

The earlier post on this topic was unclear if the dog was on a leash, thanks for posting this update!

Crazy how many cops kill dogs every year. It’s even called “puppycide” when cops do this.

Yet fire departments, ambulance drivers, Postal Service folks, Amazon drivers, FedEx, and UPS all manage to do what they do without shooting a single dog.

Seems to me that these jerk cops just love an excuse to use their guns and kill something.
