Odd the briefed them by party. If it was an external threat everyone should get the same briefing. I suspect there are internals to one party that prevented briefing both the same way. I can only guess (roll eyes) which had the issue.

Here is how the article explains why: "Republicans and Democrats were briefed separately, and under Kansas law the parties are allowed to hold closed-door caucus meetings, but rarely do in practice." Sounds like it was important enough to be very secure and legal.
