A California couple was arrested after police say they left out bikes to lure thieves and then recorded themselves beating them with bats which they posted to YouTube, police say.

-snip

Police say videos of the assaults were posted on YouTube. In the videos, police say the suspects appeared to plant a bicycle in the front yard of their home, unattended, and wait for someone passing by to stop and attempt to steal it.

When someone would try to make off with the bike, the suspects would rush from the house and assault the person with a baseball bat.

This is what happens when the police fail to do their job.

Bingo.

Call the police to report your bike was stolen. In many places they'll either place it at the very bottom of the list of stuff they give a sh*t about or tell you flat out they no longer investigate property crimes.

Vigilante justice is the end result. Expect more of this.

Entrapment is the act of convincing an otherwise innocent person to commit a crime.

I’m aware that entrapment is putting the idea of a crime into someone’s head. I don’t necessarily think this was entrapment. But I also do not think what these idiots did was lawful. Their intent was to assault people.

Where do you live? A ghetto? Where I live, we don’t lock doors, we can leave cars running while dashing into a pharmacy, never locked the house... if anyone got caught stealing, we’d beat the shit out of him. Simple justice.

If they knew people would be stealing the bike right and left there are a few things they could do that would be a lot funnier and get more likes on whatever. And bonus, they wouldn’t go to jail!

Hide a wifi tag on the bike. It is nearly free. Every few days, an app shows you the bike’s location.

Poor thieves...It's just not fair...Thieves would steal nothing if irresponsible people would not allow to things to become stealable...

Besides, if someone owns something you like and want, you are entitled to it, even if its tied down, if you can get it loose...

What about the “bait” cars that the cops park along side a road? The people that steal them are doing what they normally do...

They gain entry to the car, hot wire it to start and then drive away. ...Of course, the cops are watching and the cars are rigged so the cops can shut down the engine and then arrest the car thief.

It’s Kalifornia - if they get their way, cars and such will be illegal and bicycles will be like horses in the Old West - surely a hanging offense to steal one for any reason...
Unless the couple was having a lot of problems with theft, they should be shot for being stupid and wanting to make “those memorable moments” of themselves beating folks with baseball bats....of course, as a hunter, i did shoot deer that had been accustomed to finding salt licks in certain areas...maybe I’m just like them.
I guess I’m torn on the subject....

Leaving your bike in front of your house is your right.

There’s no way to force someone to steal it.
