That is about as obscure a point as they come. The left is universally known and labeled as red. It suits them and the color of the blood of their billions of victims, murdered and oppressed.

I looks like “electoralmap.net” straight up stole Leip’s map and reversed the colors. LOL.

I’m sure Leip would have changed them (unfortunately) but he can’t unless he wants to spend about a year changing a bunch of code.

Who would have been your choice for Nixon running mate in 1968? Reagan? Nixon’s “home state” was NY at that point.

What about in 1960?

Cabot Lodge Jr. in 1960 was a retarded choice, the dude that lost to Kennedy in a Republican year, brilliant! Were there any southern options?

In 1968 ? For VP, would’ve gone with either Reagan or Ohio Governor Jim Rhodes, perhaps even then-Gov. Paul Laxalt.

Lodge, Jr. was a poor choice for VP in 1960. He’d have been better off as Secretary of State, as he seemed more diplomatically-suited. There were too few Southern Republicans in 1960 to have picked from (Rep. Bill Cramer in FL ?). Perhaps youngish IL Governor Bill Stratton from an obvious key state would’ve done the trick or Sen. Dirksen ?

Sen. Goldwater might’ve been another, though nobody wanted to do the next-to-each-other-state political tickets in those days. Conservatives Sen. Bourke Hickenlooper from Iowa or John Marshall Butler of MD ? Sen. Margaret Chase Smith for feminine appeal (and to neutralize the hate from his 1950 Senate race) ?

Was M Chase Smith a conservative?

No. A liberal/left squishy (a la Snowe or Collins). She was blind on the issue of Communist infiltration of the government. I would’ve likely backed her opponents (Gov. Horace Hildreth in 1948) and definitely anyone after she attacked Sen. McCarthy on the Senate floor. She was not trusted by the party, either.

I might’ve suggested nominating her for VP just to get her out of the Senate seat in 1960 and to increase support from women voters who were fooled into supporting the sex predator. She really ran afoul of Eisenhower (from the left) in “borking” Lewis Strauss for Commerce Secretary and trying to deny actor Jimmy Stewart a promotion to Brigadier General, so he would’ve vocally opposed her.

As I was writing this, I was reconsidering my opinion of her. She tried to get to the right of JFK on favoring using nukes against the Soviets (!) Ultimately, I think she was way too flaky as a Senator. Had she somehow became VP from 1961 onwards, I could’ve seen her being dumped in 1964. She actually ran for President that year (got 25% of the vote in the IL primary).

She took for granted her last race in 1972, barely had any money and just assumed she had it in the bag with her ossified supporters. Got out-hustled by a Dem Congressman, Bill Hathaway, and lost. She lived to around 98 (long enough to see the 1994 GOP Revolution).

She was in the Senate long enough to be rated by the ACU for 1971 and 1972, where she was all over the map. Got an 82% Conservative rating in 1971 and a paltry 33% in 1972.

She sounds like bad news to me. Jimmy Stewart?

I think 1960 would have been too early for a woman.

Wikipedia says the finalists other than Lodge were

Rep. Walter Judd (MN) and RINO(?) Senator T. Morton (KY)

Other’s considered included Dirksen and Robert B. Anderson, whom Ike seemed to be in love with.

I don’t know why Ike was so big on Robert Anderson. He was considering dumping Nixon for Anderson in ‘56. Anderson, as it later turned out, was a crook.

Dirksen would’ve been a solid choice. Thruston B. Morton was meh, establishment guy. Judd was a Conservative. His seat is now occupied by the horrid jihadist terrorist bitch from Somalia (and before her, Keef X).
