Singer Boy George has barrelled back into relevancy after saying that use of pronouns is a modern form of attention seeking.
The Culture Club singers tweets quickly became a lightning rod for criticism from LGBT+ circles, with countless trans and gender-diverse folk slamming the star while his words attracted support from gender-critical groups.
Simply specifying your pronouns, whether on a social media bio or to in an email signature, is a small act that helps encourage inclusivity and building solidarity with the trans community.
But George has kicked off the new decade with a take on pronouns labelled transphobic by activists, coming after singer-songwriter Marc Almond faced similar accusations last year. George decried the claims the artist was transphobic as well as ripping into all this PC stuff.
On January 6, George for some reason tweeted: Leave your [pronouns] at the door.
...
That’s part of the point.
To force a man to accept a conclusion (that a man is a woman and vice versa) against his own judgment is to order him to accept as true something that according to everything he knows is not true (is either arbitrary or false). This amounts to ordering him to accept a contradiction. It is like demanding his agreement that red is green. No rational man with high self-esteem will allow himself to do that.
Remember Liberace. Everyone knew he was gay, but he didn’t rub people’s faces in it (so to speak), and was a great entertainer.
He's not weird enough:
I wonder if some of George O’Dowd’s more conservative position might come from the fact that he was forced (by court order) to clean up after those two drug arrests he had in NYC? Once he dried out from all the coke and heroin he did in the Eighties and Early Nineties, he seemed to mellow out a great deal.
Do you really want to hurt him?
He is a Boomer, afterall.
Wow. We’ve arrived at a point in time where Boy George just isn’t gay enough for them.
I mean.....wow!
Note tagline.
Nobody's going to learn 30-or-so pronouns. If they must degenderize the language, perhaps the masculine and feminine forms could be eliminated leaving the neuter to apply to everyone and everything. Howzat? Nobody thought of that? Well there it is.
I think some gays do resent the fact that the normalization of homosexuality has created this whole new envelope to push.
They should have known it wasn’t going to stop at normalizing homosexuality, it was inevitable that after that Pedophilia, Bestiality, Polygamy, Transgenderism etc., would then be “in play”.
So now that homosexuals are normalized, they suddenly become “conservative”.
A truly great entertainer!
There’s a great line in Jersey Boys....they say, “We thought Liberace was just flamboyant. This was the ‘50s!”.
Lolololol
Keeping the parts God gave you at birth is downright reactionary.
His voice has mellowed out too. It has a much bluesier sound than it did in the 80’s.
He just not libphobic, he’s not scared of libs.
He, she.
Deal with it.
“I know Boy George is queer, and all that...but I tell you, Culture Club, MTV and President Reagan. The early 80s were a great time to be alive in America.”
Ditto. Boy George is one of a kind - and he’s been a very savvy businessman, hasn’t ended up on the streets or dead from drugs (been sober for many, many years now) or killed by a jealous luv-ah.
More people need to channel their craziness into something productive. ;)
Say what you will about Boy George, his music with Culture Club was great and was part of the soundtrack of the ‘80s for a lot of people. Meanwhile, the idiots accusing him of being “transphobic” have never contributed anything more interesting to society than accusations of people being “transphobic”.
George is old school..?
he grew up in the 70s-80s.. when men were men and women were women and freaks were freaks.
...and even the freaks knew the difference.
Do you really want to hurt me? Well frankly, yes.
