Because of the Russian natural gas project "Turkish stream", Russian-operated nuclear power plants in Bulgaria and Turkey, the United States is concerned about the increase in Russian energy monopoly in the region.

Principal Deputy assistant Secretary in the Bureau of energy resources U.S. state Department Kent Logsdon in his speech at the energy conference in Texas noted that in connection with the project "Turkish stream" nuclear power plant "Belene" in Bulgaria, his country was concerned about the increase in the concentration of Russian energy sources in the region.

Logsdon, stressing that no country should depend on one "energy source", said: "We are concerned about the fragility of the projects and that they are related to political interests. We want to be sure that projects implemented worldwide may not only depend on one source of fuel and only one type of fuel. In particular our concern about Eastern Europe is associated with the ability of our and other international companies to compete in this market."

According to Logsdon, creating international relationships is very important, but they should not be tied to one source. It is not right for the region to solely depend on Russia. Logsdon also expressed the hope that Russia and Ukraine will be able to reach consensus on the question of the extension of the agreement on the transit of gas to European countries at a meeting on September 19.
