They should purposefully hold back on tv’s for at least another decade. Many of us just bought 4k tv’s.
Funny thing is we are already at the point where we have reached the human eye’s resolution. Anything above 4k is probably going to be useless in terms of an upgrade to image quality and only be a marketing ploy.
Yeah, I know, live events and such may be pretty cool if people can even see at that resolution. Will the cable/wireless infrastructure support it and how will we even know if there’s degradation in the quality?
I’m just tossing this out there. After 20 years on this site I can finally play the grumping old dude. Recently I’ve had to use glasses to see up close. It’s not so bad that I need them all of the time, but I don’t think I could tell 4K from 8K at this point.
I have two large plastic bins in the basement of legacy interconnects. I really should have a go at reducing it to one.
More generally, 8k seems absurd, given that we barely have 4K content. But I suppose you have to start the next upgrade somewhere.
I’m holding out for 16K

I don’t want a smart toilet that announces to the world what got flushed.
I’ll stick to cheapo Walmart Black Friday tvs or maybe just do without.
They’re hardly broadcasting anything in even 4K yet. I’m generally happy when I can find something in 1080 - and the picture quality is very good at even that resolution. Going from 4K to 8K seems like spending piles of cash to chase an improvement so small I’d find it difficult to even notice.
Where is the new device that offsets the tinnitus sound?
