I am not sure if the situation has gotten worse but geography education has always been horrible in the US.

That's why they make maps and why they have words on them.

And why they built gas stations...cuz they sold local maps.

About the same number that can find Nebraska.
Actually, I’m surprised that many can find Iran on a map.

I love geography and I’m always perplexed at why folks are stupid at this subject - especially the idiot racist-nationalist types.

I bet $1000 99% of Black Panthers couldn’t located Ethiopia, Nigeria, or South Africa on a blank map.

Same bet for skinheads for pointing out Austria, Poland, or Bulgaria.

No, it was decent in the mid sixties.

The best way to learn geography is to travel. If you can’t travel at least read books about historic events and people.
To learn geography in fine detail play historical wargames.

I was a Geography major and could not just glance at a blank map and locate it.

I would have to first locate ones I knew for certain then track to Iran.

You mean they don’t teach geography or history in public schools? So what do they teach?

47 percent also approve of trump’s killing the terrorist. I give everyone a break. Could I find Iraq? I’d certainly be in the general area for sure.

I don’t blame the schools for this. I blame the board game company Hasbro. If they had made Iran one of Risk’s territories, everyone would know where Iran is. It would be as well-known as Irkutsk is.

Incredible.

However, I would struggle to identify 12 countries on an unlabeled map of Africa.

Sub-Sahara, maybe five countries, and I would probably use the Colonial-era names for a couple of them.

Central America has always been a struggle for me, too.

Between Panama and Guatemala and Belize, I know Nicaragua, but the other three or four I always forget.

One thing that makes Iran stand out is its size. It is a large country, compared to the surrounding nations.

I can locate Iran, I just could never locate the transparency or ethics the Obama administration claimed to have.
