As we head into a 2020 offseason in which about 70% of the NFLs players are black, and the NFL itself is celebrating a 100th anniversary that is filled with all kinds of racial inequality, the current state of black head coaching candidates, and other candidates of color, should be a much bigger concern than it is. How did we get here, and why does the NFL fail to find a solution to what seems to be a simple problem of excellence and equality?

I’m more upset about the lack of white running backs.
How about starting CB’s...0
Why do we ‘need’ equality here any more than we ‘need’ a certain legislated number of women on California corporate boards?
And do they just need to identify as women, or do they need to have been born with the requisite plumbing?
NFL coaches should be selected on ability, not skin color....
Because they cannot compete, so they force it.
Why do liberals feel that the NFL coaching demographics need to match that of the players and not the demographics of the country in general (which is around 12.1% black)? Shouldnt they be even more bothered that Hispanics and Asians are apparently being heavily discriminated against based on their number of players in the NFL vs. the general population?
Hello hiring a black candidate who has the goods to be a successful HC is not an issue. Theres not too many choices in this cycle but more could pop up in the future. Personally I think Herman Edwards is a good choice.
Why do we have to treat blacks differently than whites?
Are we admitting that blacks are intellectually inferior to whites?

“NFL coaches should be selected on ability, not skin color...”
“EVERYONE for ANY job should be selected on ability, not skin color...”
Fixed it for ya! :)
Nobody owes “candidates of color” anything. If you can’t earn something on your own merit then tough titties. You aren’t good enough, you didn’t make the grade. Suck it up and live with it.
"Of color".........gettin' so sick of that term.........
I preferred "soul brothers"......That sounded pretty cool.
Yeah, poor old Mike Tomlin is SO disadvantaged.
I saw Jerry Jones actually brought that putz, Marvin Lewis, in for an interview. Just a bone for the racist NFL, I would guess. No way Jones is seriously considering that loser.
He took a college coaching job I think.
Most people don’t give a damn what the color of their coach’s skin is; they want a coach who will WIN.
I dont care
Football is a game that places a lot of value on speed. When is the last time a non-Black man won the 100 meter sprint? But what is it about running a tiny bit faster than others would qualify a man to be the better NFL coach? It seems to me that the prevalence of Black players is mostly irrelevant to the selection of a head coach. And, BTW, Black coaches who perform well keep their jobs just like white coaches (example: Mike Tomlin) and those who do not are canned, just like the white coaches. What a stupid article.
Maybe they should have a quota and force some of the kickers and punters to be black. NOT!
