A popular tourist rock formation in Puerto Rico has collapsed after a strong earthquake shook the island, damaging homes and causing power cuts.
The stone arch, known as Punta Ventana, was destroyed on Monday, when the earthquake hit.
The 5.8-magnitude quake struck at a depth of 6km (3.7 miles), off the Caribbean island's southern coast. No tsunami alerts were issued and no casualties have been reported.
There were, however, reports of severe damage to buildings, landslides and widespread power cuts after the earthquake, which struck at 06:32 local time (10:32 GMT).
Pictures of the aftermath, showing homes upended from their foundations and cars crushed under buildings, were posted to social media.
Among them was a picture of Punta Ventana after it had collapsed into the ocean, near the southern town of Guayanilla.

“”thinking everything takes millions of years to erode, etc.””
And to the sea it returns. Makes me wonder! If all ice on earth stayed as is no more no less, would the oceans still rise? Where does all this eroded material end up? The climate change gang have used rising oceans as their default example of the so called coming disaster. I’ve suggested that it’s erosion that’s responsible for rising sea levels. Just the Mississippi River alone dumps around 250 to 300 million tons of sediment in to the Gulf every year. Throw in all the other rivers, stream and tributary’s of the world and you have allot of sediment flowing into the oceans. I’ve seen studies that suggest as much as 60 million tons of cosmic dust settles into the oceans yearly. The winds coming off Western Africa takes the sands hundreds of miles out across the ocean. Keep dropping marbles into a pool and eventually the pool runs over.

And lots of sizable aftershocks.
It’s not a plate boundary. I wonder what’s going on.
The plate stuff is a crock. We really have no clue.

It is on the northern edges of the Caribbean Plate.
There was another one in Australia called ‘The Twelve Apostles’, even though there were never 12 columns, where one of them finally tumbled into the sea.............

Before any US taxpayer money is sent to socialist/corrupt puerto rico, make their “leaders” all resign and be banned from holding ANY office.
It is a subduction zone, Caribbean plate and Atlantic plate.
Dagnabbit, Caribbean and North Atlantic plate!
I don’t know if PR is at a boundary, but it is on the Caribbean Plate. In 1902 the volcanic edges of that plate were very active killing about 50,000 people. Martinique - 35,000, St. Vincent 2 to 4,000, Guatemala - 5,000, other volcanoes in Central America as well.
