I am in the process of selling my home and downsizing. As you have it I have possessed an old (50s?) Everett upright piano.
Since it weighs at least 600lbs and I don't play I am not taking it with me. So I put it up on Craigslist "Free to good home".
A woman from a nursing home called me and wondered if she could check it out as it helps seniors stay engaged in activities.
She brought one of her employees with her who knew a little about pianos and "could play a little". This employee was a small Philippina...I forget her name.
She sat down and belted out Chopin's Promenade. She was a concert pianist in her youth.
And identified 3 sticky keys and need for a tune.
As far as I could tell the rendition was perfect.
Just wow.
I'm glad it's going to them. They take care of old vets for the VA under some program or another.
Good for you!! Glad it’s going to a good home where it will be appreciated. Good luck with your move!!
Good for you, I’m sure it will be appreciated in its new home!
Great story, and great move!
Well done. Starting off 2020 in a blessed way.
It’s times like these when FR really needs a like button. Glad to hear your piano is going to someone who will appreciate it.
More people want to part with their piano than acquire one which is why there are so many pianos being given away on CraigsList.
Yeah, this one weighs at least 600lbs.
Well done. I grew up with piano music in the house. One of my brothers eventually got a scholarship to Eastman School of Music. Nothing like it. Hopefully this pianos key sounds will bring the same kind of happiness to someone.
You just made a difference in some lives, sir.
Thank you.
Bless you!!
God bless you for that wonderful gift of music.
My piano story:
Mom died last year, had to get her Everett piano out of basement. Put it on Craigslist.
Guy 20 miles away wants to get piano for wife and 4 kids.Wife’s birthday is next day.
I had to sell moms dear piano really cheap and I wondered what my mom would be thinking about this.
The next day was his wife’s birthday, he sends me a text that he found paperwork in the piano bench.
He wanted to let me know the not only did my mom buy the piano on that day; my Mom had bought this piano on the very day this man wife was born in November of 1979!!
Mine weighs at least that. Not an Everett, but I do know it was built in 1901. Got it for my 7th birthday.
Wow, that is amazing! It was truly meant to be, huh?
The link goes back to freerepublic.
What is the correct link?
FR is the original publisher and I am the author.
Chopin never wrote a piece called Promenade.
He actually wrote two Promenades.
So maybe it was the more famous Polonaise, but for non- music majors, it’s a great story that loses no meaning by whatever joful noise was made. Change it to Rock of Ages; love the gift of music.
