Washington Post ^ | January 1, 2020 | Monica Hesse

To the men who love “Little Women”: Hello! You are not alone. There are many of you, and you have all been emailing me to confess, as if it were a shameful secret, your deep affection for a 150-year-old story about four girls growing up in Civil War-era Massachusetts, making currant jam and accidentally burning their dresses in the fireplace.

These nags just won't stop. Of all the works of lit that have been made into movies or TV series Little Women has to be the worse. There is nothing compelling about the story of a family in genteel poverty living in some nondescript New England town. Does it have the wit and mannerisms of Austen? No. Does it have the romance and Gothic element of Bronte? No. Does it have the cutting social commentary and wide range characters of Dickens? No. Does it have the inspiring scenery and looking into a dying world as Hardy? No. Does it have people trying to make due as the world burns as in War and Peace or Dr. Zhivago? No. There is not thing from Little Women that would appeal to a man.

Literature is one thing. I don’t want to be forced to watch a politically correct film interpretation of it.

I like little women. It’s the really big women that I’m afraid to see.

Lol.. women aren’t even going to see it. Too much boring and predictable female drama. After having a teenage girl, I am done with that... and I sure wouldn’t pay to see it.
I highly recommend Spies in Disguise it is laugh til you cry funny. next up 1917.

Long ago, when I was ion high school, a bit over 60 years ago, we’d have an annual book fair where the kids could buy any one of a large selection of paper back books. “Little Women” and all of the George Elliot drek were the leading non-sellers.

Women need effeminate men to validate them. Sorry, women, you’re not men, so stop trying to get men to act like you to make you feel better.

Oh, and stop dressing like truckers and killing your children.

I read the book ages ago, and enjoyed it, but oddly, I’m unmotivated to watch yet another film interpretation. How Neanderthal of me.

Women want men to be women - while they’re trying to be men themselves.

Wait, If they could make Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, then they can make Little Women and Zombies!

Or you can see one of the other film versions, or read the book for free...

I saw Pride Prejudice and Zombies. Really enjoyed. Loved seeing pretty English girls in Regency dress kick zombie arse.
