The United Methodist Church is expected to split into more than one denomination in an attempt to bring to a close a years-long and contentious fight over same-sex marriage.
The historic schism would divide the third-largest religious denomination in the United States.
Leaders of the church announced Friday they had agreed to spin off a traditionalist Methodist denomination, which would continue to oppose same-sex marriage and to refuse ordination to LGBT clergy, while allowing the remaining portion of the United Methodist Church to permit same-sex marriage and LGBT clergy for the first time in its history.

Let the split happen. separate the wheat from the chaff.
The side that stays true to the word will benefit.
... Methodists are splitting over the issue of homosexuality?
Who in their right mind would follow a Shepard that cannot enter into the Kingdom of God?, or honor a path that does the same?
John Wesley And the Holiness Movement would be greatly saddened
That's how cancer works. Get it out surgically, if necessary.
This patient has remaining health issues...
Perhaps God will use this.
None of the American mainline churches are Christian any more.
At least God has been gracious in that generally a church controlled by Satan has been marked by a rainbow, so you know it is unclean and has been abandoned by the Spirit.
It is the LGBTQWERTY “church” that should split away and maybe join the Unitarians or whoever. The traditional Christians should not have to leave.
Liberals!!! They wouldn’t accept the election of President Trump. The libs in the Methodist Church won’t accept the vote of the conference for the Traditional Plan. The libs in both cases had everything set up the way they wanted, until the vote was actually taken.

Didn’t mean to say it twice, but it might bear repeating after all.
I’ve been hearing about this split for 20 years. Are the homos going to leave? They keep losing votes. They should go.
So, I guess to the lefties, it’s not “settled law.”
Lefties never quit. They never sleep. They never go away. It takes a “Trump of the Church” to fix their messes.
Homosexuals have destroyed yet another institution. Their relentless march continues full steam ahead.
Yep, and somewhere down the road, they'll probably split again when the apostates infect the remaining half. Then they'll have to split again and again. It's still the best course and preserves at least a remnant.
Funny how none of the islamic sects are splitting over this. Are there ANY mosques willing to perform same sex marriages? Is their such a thing as an imam who’s openly gay or an alphabet person?
Imagine a Western World where Protestants protested ?!?!
There is much meaning in the following quote from the article:
“The agreement pledges $25 million to the new traditionalist denomination, which will break away from the United Methodist Church, a group that is likely to include most of the churchs congregations in Africa, as well as some in the United States. In exchange, Fridays announcement said, the new denomination would drop any claim to United Methodist assets, such as church buildings.”
Note the following:
1). It is the traditionalists, those who believe in the doctrine of the church and Bible, who are “breaking away”, not the progressive who want to change church doctrine and break up the church. Their love for 2% of the population far exceeds their concern and caring for the near 50% who identify as traditionalists.
2). The new nomination will drop any claim to United Methodist assets, such as church buildings. Local congregations raised the money to buy the land and build the buildings. Yet the progressive United Methodist Church will own the buildings. How long will it be before the progressives raise the rents on the traditionalist churches to unaffordable levels? How long will it be before the progressive church decides to sell off the land on which traditionalist churches sit to developers. Progressive never just peacefully go away. They are vindictive and will fight until the other side is destroyed or submits.
3) Twenty five million dollars for the traditionalists is chump change. The UM Church has 32,000 congregations. If only 10% break away as traditionalists, that would be 3200 traditionalist congregations. $25 million represents only $7,800 per congregation under these assumptions. In essence, the progressives are casting traditionalists off the ship without a life raft, particularly since ownership of the traditionalist congregation church buildings remains with the progressives.
Not in the above article but I read a blog post today by a “progressive” who is highly involved in the church hierarchy. The blog said the progressives are highly organized and have captured an overwhelming majority of delegates in most churches and conferences. Now that the progressives have voting control of most local congregation boards, they don’t expect there to be many congregations voting to join the traditionalist church.
The writer seems to believe once it settles out the conservatives in progressive congregations will adapt to the new reality. He clearly has antipathy for the traditionalists. No remorse or sadness the church is dividing. Clearly the teachings of the Bible are not guiding the thinking process.
Progressives are winning the culture wars without much of a fight. Barack Obama promised to fundamentally change America. What institution is the next progressive target for change?
No church of man represents God, God represents God anyway..man is man..look at the world and see all our stupidity..
but I have been attending a Methodist church, and do not like it either..
I understand trying to bring all in to hear the word but not be complacent over sin..one thing is for sure no man can resolve them..or church..
