Looks kind of small quantity wise. But I bet it tastes good.
We all have that dream and have to work like heck to make sure it does not become a nightmare.
The varieties “Adams”, “York”, and “Bob Gordon” are generally better berry producers than the rest. Although in my experience, most varieties will produce plenty. Elderberries tend to be pretty forgiving in terms of soil fertility and drainage. The berries do attract birds, so you may decide you want to net them.
Sometimes kids will make blowdart guns out of the hollow stems, I recommend warning them against that. The entire plant contains a mild toxin. Cooking destroys this toxin, but using the stems for blowdart guns might result in them ingesting enough to throw up.
I highly recommend growing your own and making elderberry syrup every year. It’s probably the best tasting anti-viral I’ve ever come across. A tablespoon per day acts as a preventative for cold, flu, and several other viruses. If one does get through, a tablespoon every 3 hours will cut the duration of the cold by quite a bit. And it’s good enough to eat or use in drinks just for fun.
My Basil is rooting really well! I’m taking additional cuttings from the Mother plant (bought it in the Walmart produce section weeks ago) and I am adding a bit of Tiger Bloom to the water when I change it every few days. I have it under grow lights with the mother plant, some arugula and lettuces.

THANKS for sharing. It’s been a rough week and your post is great medicine. My basil plant petered out, usually does in January. Just doesn’t get enough sun even in a big south facing window. As the ranches each started looking pekid I cut them and chiffonaded the leaves, packed in olive oil and froze. Waste not want not. You may want to start trimming off the bottom of the stem, whenever anything gets black and rotted looking I would cut it off. If you haven’t done it already. Freepmail coming your way.
Got your message. My roots are still white, but I will keep an eye on them. They get fresh water tomorrow, and then I’m going to harvest some for a pizza I’m making. ;)
Yummy. Best pizza I ever made had no pizza sauce but had fresh tomato, bacon, basil and onion. The roots turning brown is not a bad thing they will just mature and look like roots in the ground. Fascinating to watch.
Mushroom, Brie and Arugula Pizza (with Truffle Crème Fraîche)
ING homemade pizza dough evo (plain or truffle flavored) 8 oz fresh, sliced white or crimini mushrooms
6 oz brie 6 oz crème fraîche 1/4 tsp truffle salt 1-2 oz minced truffles (from Italy in glass jar) fresh arugula
METHOD saute sliced mushrooms in a little evo; sprinkle w/ bit salt. Next, mix the creme fraiche, truffle salt and chp truffles; set aside.
ASSEMBLY Shape dough into 2 pizzas. Drizzle w/ evo, then layer w/
truffled creme fraiche, Brie slices, mushrooms. Bake bubbly 500 deg.
Serve topped w/ fresh arugala. Best served hot, but still very good at room temp.
Yum! Thanks for posting. That one I made I just threw together and had no pizza sauce in the house. Have since liked a Knorr packet cream pesto as a sauce too. And it goes without saying heavy on the garlic, preferably roasted first.
That pizza looks so good! I added tomato sauce w/Italian herbs and lots of cheese and shredded Basil and shredded Spinach.
I had the dough in the freezer from ‘Gino’s Deli’ and it was just fine once thawed, overnight. :)

Just looking at your catch, again. Make sure you freeze the heads for burying in the garden next Spring...or just to give The Missus something fun to find while she’s digging around in there. ;)
When I was dating Beau, I found a frozen stiff CAT in his basement freezer! It was a house cat he loved and wanted to give it a proper burial come spring, LOL!
Right now I can name a few dozen animal,’body parts’ that are in mine! At least I THINK they’re animals...Bwaaa-Haaa-Haaa!
Heads and guts went into the pond. I thought my perch might appreciate the snack.
