Russia's Aeroflot has been named as the world's most on-time mainline airline in 2019 in a new report.

It has beaten Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA), which comes second, and highest-ranked U.S airline Delta Air Lines is third overall. Virgin Atlantic is the UK's most on-schedule carrier.

Meanwhile, Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport is named as the world's most punctual airport.

I was surprised to learn that LOT Polish Airlines is still mostly government-owned.

Well, there is that and because Moscow is not such a big tourist or business destination, eh?

If airline management demand punctuality, they can get it, but at the expense of fuel economy. Since Aeroflot has the benefit of cheap gas and Russian state subsidies, fuel economy is less of an issue. In contrast, pilots for more commercial-minded airlines are obliged to conserve fuel, even if it means departing or arriving late and adjusting flight parameters to give priority to fuel economy.

If you have a visa, visiting Russia isn’t very difficult. Unlike in the Soviet time, you can go just about anywhere except to a few cities closed to foreigners.

I'd have to drive to Houston to get a Visa to go to Russia, it's a big pain.

Understood. But being able to go and actually wanting to go are very different things.

Last flight I took on American had stewardesses so big they barely got down the aisle. One of them looked like Ben Franklin.

Wouldn’t wanna be guilty of Lookism, right?

US carriers are now bastions of political correctness.

The FA’s look like they came from the bar scene in Star Wars.

“I’ve flown Aerflot many times, having in-laws in Russia (even back in the Tupolev days), and I can attest to this - everything they do is first class and they are highly professional. The food is great too.”

I’ve read the same - them and Turkish Airlines are top-notch, although if you have problems in Istanbul, it can be a nightmare (on the ground). Not sure with Aeroflot, though.

How can delta be up there?

Because the other American carriers are WORSE!

I rarely have problems on Delta. Not like I do on United, or...God forbid, American.

I would rather a plane leave a little late than arrive early any day ofthe year

Of course for Aeroflot they average the landing times for all the Aeroflot crashes as on-time or early arrivals,,,

They’ve replaced their Soviet-era fleet with Boeing and Airbus jets.

Aeroflot is a world-class airline and they’re providing on time service.

Yep! I flew Aeroflot was early 1970.. In those day they were strictly white-knuckle flights... Turboprops... They considered normaling landings as crash practice... Ugly. Mean-looking stewardesses who acted more like KGB agents....
