She still beat the hell out of her own kid :)
That’s pretty much how kid justice worked back then :)
But then later when Ralphie is beating up Scut, he’s cussing up a storm and his mom obviously heard him, but that time she was much more sympathetic.
I love the scene where Ralphie’s brother is hiding under the sink, and the mother asks him why, and he says, “Dad is going to kill Ralphie!”, and the mother just closes the sink door and leaves him alone.
