Somewhere around the middle of the decade, Gene Simmons famously declared to all who would listen that "rock'n'roll is finally dead". Pointing the finger at file-sharing for what he called the "murder" of the genre, he railed against modern technology and what he perceived as the decade's lack of talent, decrying the absence of a "next Bob Dylan" in modern music's landscape.
But pay no attention to uncle Gene. Firstly, he's been saying this sort of thing since 1993, and we all know how the 90s panned out in terms of rock's legacy. Just because Kiss failed to make a great record this decade doesn't mean everyone else did. Secondly, a quick scan of the albums below will show you that rock music's been plenty busy over the last 10 years.
Rock'n'roll mainstays AC/DC released Rock Or Bust, an album we felt "placed its faith at the feet of rocknroll, both as a restorative force and also as a vaccine against all ills" when it was released in 2014. Fellow veterans ZZ Top and Rush joined them in releasing stone-cold belters at various points throughout the decade.
But as we've discussed in depth elsewhere there's been plenty of new blood making their mark on the decade, too. The Struts cemented their profile with two swaggering albums 2014's Everybody Wants and 2018's Young & Dangerous their success helped in no small part by the impossible charisma of vocalist Luke Spiller. Who says we don't have any rock stars anymore? Idles, Fantastic Negrito and Royal Blood all furnished us with future classics.
...
So, here we present the best 50 rock albums of the decade as voted for by you.

I am one of the few I suppose that enjoyed “A Different Kind of Truth” by Van Halen. “Move Like This” by the Cars was also one I liked. There was nothing sensational about either album but as a fan of both bands, I enjoyed the final products.
I’ll take the albums from Clutch and Halestorm. Most of the others on the list were great rockers in their time (my time) but they don’t have the same teeth that they once did.
I don’t deny Radiohead’s popularity and influence. But...well..There is a great rock mag out of the U.K. called Mojo that I learned about when abroad on business. There was an article in the early 2000s on Thom Yorke and how he wrote everything down because it all felt so important, his “hypomania” and his mental state etc. He came across as the biggest self-absorbed musician of his era, so much so that I couldn’t listen to his lyrics anymore.
Neal Morse Band - The Grand Experiment
Threshold - Legends of the Shire
The Flower Kings - Waiting for Miracles
The Neal Morse Band - The Similtude of a Dream
Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase.
These are some of the best rock albums out there the past decade.
It was a blues album
I always took them to be a bunch of guys that loved doing rhythm and blues and didn’t want to change. Kinda doing what they wanted regardless of what others thought. Kinda like Bob Dylan who did what he wanted and screw those that don’t like it.
“I know it’s only rock and roll but I like it...” That kind of thinking.
After squeezing every last penny from that song, Jagger and Richards "gifted" it back to The Verve earlier this year out of the kindness of their hearts.
Well, the Stones were always rhythm and blues but they called it rock and roll. Whatever, I’ve always like their stuff and their sort of independent shtick.
Re: #7 (Steven Wilson). I sure wish he and the rest of his Porcupine Tree bandmates would get back together.
Can’t argue with Rush at #1. Steven Wilson should be #2 instead of #7. But a lot of the names on the list are 80’s and 90’s stars who released “big comeback” albums. None of the newer bands listed really did anything for me and I think there are some major omissions, although it was good to see Myles Kennedy get so many positive mentions.
Kate Bush - “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” from the album “Hounds Of Love” - her only song I liked and rather a bit avantgarde.
Kate Bush was discovered by David Gilmour (Pink Floyd).

I have not heard a good pop or rock song for many many many years on the radio, heck the oldies stations play music from the 80’s onward, mostly terrible.
I find my music now at youtube and listen to the real oldies and music from the movies and classical music.
I have heard a few and only a few good country songs in at least a decade. None included trucks, cut off jeans or drinking....or bro’s wearing plastic cowboy hats.

I skimmed & got bored. Not very enlightening.
Most on list seemed to be newer releases by OLD talents — i.e. geriatric holdovers from the & 70s.
Point being, thats where excellence in rock is to be found, but we already know that.
The only youngsters I spotted & like on that list are Queens of the Stone Age.
They’re cool.
I also like Paolo Nutini— was he on the list? If I were 40 years younger, I’d be in the front row, throwing my panties at him.
Kate Bush is OLD. I didnt even know she’s still alive & recording.
That QOTSA album is a good one. I especially like the song If I Had a Tail.
I’m a little surprised the list doesn’t include Tame Impala’s album Lonerism.

Metal meets prog - doesn't get any better!
Go to Reverb Nation. More music on there than you can shake a stick at. All kinds.
Meh! I have purchased only two cd’s in the past twenty years.
The Killers - Sam’s Town in 2006.
Lana Del Rey - Norman F*ing Rockwell! this year.
I thought about buying Nine Inch Nails - Add Violence a couple of years ago but gave it a pass.
Wow - I can’t believe some “expert” put Clockwork Angels at #1 where it belongs.
And an amazing live show:
The song “Clockwork Angels”:
