Out of curiosity I tried a paper clip in the the coax port and picked up 4 digital channels (coastal Carolina). When I tried the really cheap one my neighbor gave me I got 24 digital channels. I put the antenna in the window of the upstairs bedroom.

Roku. Free. And it rocks.

Yes there are channels and services it provides that charge a fee but it has TONS of free content.

I cut the cable and use Roku. A good move.
