[[[$20 says he was wearing earbuds and listening to some god awful shitty music at ear splitting volumes when it happened.]]]
Or lamenting his loss of signal on the nature walk.
Oh, Tannenboom
Well... if ya gotta go, it’s a quick way to go, and what could be more fitting than to meet your Creator by getting clobbered by an evergreen on Christmas Eve. Sure beats pancreatic cancer.
BS Redwoods are very stable as they spread roots wide.
Hope he didn’t have kids. The article says nothing about his family. RIP.

I still need the glasses!
I’ve misread more than a few thread titles in some interesting ways!
They’ve been wind-tested, besides.
What strikes me odd is the use of the word “collapses” in the headline.
Thats some crazy shiite. Been through there 100s of times. Have seen a tree fall on occasion. Heard one at a distance recently
Day after Christmas and half the comments on this thread are either mocking, belittling or insulting this poor freaking guy who just died on a goddam hike. A low point in my long FReeper history.

Totally agree. There are times that I just don’t get/understand people. This is one of them.
Poor kid...visiting from Minnesota to such a spectacular place.
My son and I were at a PGA tournament a few years ago when a tree near us splintered and fell. It sounded like endless strings of firecrackers going off as the wood splintered. Luckily nobody got hurt.
Don’t get all snowflakey, life is brutal and no one here is pleased by this guy’s demise.

My beloved (husband) is from New York.
He told me of one winter storm where a tree came down on a vehicle belonging to one of his brothers.
Happened on the extended driveway.
Thankfully, everyone was in the house when it happened.
I was dating a tall red head and she collapsed on me. It was awful but I survived. It wasnt easy, I had to work very hard. This poor man was destined for a lightning strike type of event. He could have cashed in at a train wreck or airplane crash. SHeppens.
Man when it is your time to go. Adios!
