As an outsider who hasn’t walked the fine line of politics..he doesn’t know how to keep from tripping up. And it will happen again.
I could have told him that asking a foreign power to investigate an opponent should have been handled another way in DC after Nixon...even if the political opponent is corrupt as hell.
I could have told him tying up aid less than two hours after asking for an investigation of his political opponent was going to get him in hot water...even if the two events were not related.
Use DC common sense.
But he was thinking as a Businessman..not a DC animal.
Something that is perfectly fine in business can get you in a whole lot of political trouble because of some arcane political rule.
It is all well and fine to be a bull in a China Shop when it comes to DC ..until you don’t have someone covering for all your missteps.
I am sure Obama made plenty that could have gotten him impeached using the same standard they are applying to Trump. If Trump had the hot mic episode about Putin that Obama had there would be hell to pay for sure.
There were better ways to handle what happened that wouldn’t have landed him in hot water....
Hopefully he is reelected and learns more about how to navigate the DC landmines.
