Ed Smart, the father of kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart, has shared how difficult it was to come to terms with his sexuality in a new interview.
The 64-year-old Smart, who came out as gay in August, told CBS This Morning that he struggled to accept himself after a lifetime of believing that being attracted to men was “not acceptable.”
“I was praying that I was not [gay]. I didn’t want to believe that I was,” Smart said. “But how do you cure being gay? There is no cure. And for all of those out there that are struggling in the same spot, there is no cure.”
Smart came out in a letter posted to his Facebook in August, in which he detailed that he was in the process of divorcing his wife of 34 years, Lois. Smart added that he was no longer comfortable being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon church. While the church announced in April that the children of people in the LGBT community could be baptized without approval from leadership, it still considers same-sex marriage to be a “serious transgression” and acting on same-sex attractions to be a “sin.”
Speaking with CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King in an interview airing in parts this week, Smart said he spoke with church leaders while trying to figure out his feelings.
“I literally called my bishop up one morning, and I said, ‘You know, I feel like I’ve stabbed Lois in the heart,'” Smart said. “And I went to my other church leader, and I said to him, ‘So am I gay? Am I gay?’ And he said to me, ‘I don’t think so.’ He said, ‘You know, there’s this spectrum.'”

Where did those children come from?
Not to get too graphic or suggestive, but, as a heterosexual male, I find the idea of sexual contact with another male to be disturbing.
If one is truly a homosexual, wouldn’t the idea of sexual contact with a female be rejected by such a male? yet they have multiple children.
Some people are said to be “bi-sexual”. Perhaps that is where Ed really is?
I think the Diceman had the right answer about that.
He says he never cheated on his wife, but I he didn’t say if he looked at videos. That is just as bad or worse. And it could have warped his mind further on down the spectrum. A choice he may have made.
We knew that on Day 1.
Now come out and admit she ran away willingly with those freaks.

The fact that He went so far as to reduce Sodom and Gomorrah to dust in the blinking of an eye and turned Lots wife into a pillar of salt for merely looking back (some say longingly) should tell us how He feels about homosexuality of any kind.
Do not be deceived, God hates sin!
The basic impulse to sin is not the issue, it is the nature of all of us. The ability to overcome sin through the Grace of The Messiah *is* the issue. That’s why there is a problem with so-called sodomite “Christians,” they live their lives and define themselves as celebrants of sin. Yes, their sin impulse may be different from mine and may never be fully overcome, but the problem is when they act on it and define themselves by it.
Who cares? Leave them alone. Hope Elizabeth is OK.
