It’s Official: Rep. Van Drew Flips Republican and Pledges ‘Undying Support’ for Donald Trump

Democrat Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey officially announced his decision to switch political parties and pledged his support for President Donald Trump on Thursday.

“I believe that this is just a better fit for me,” Van Drew told reporters on Thursday at the White House. “This is who I am. It’s who I always was, but there was more tolerance of moderate Democrats, of Blue Dog Democrats, of Conservative Democrats, and I think that’s going away.”

Van Drew met with Trump in the Oval Office together with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Vice President Mike Pence to discuss his decision. Trump called his decision a “big deal” noting that it had been about ten years since a member of Congress switched parties to become a Republican.

“It’s a very big deal,” McCarthy agreed. “Because he’s going from the majority to the minority. It normally doesn’t go that way.” “Yeah, but he’s very smart because he knows it’s not going to be the minority for long,” Trump replied. “I have a feeling we’re going to do very well in 2020.”

Van Drew noted that one of his political heroes continued to be former President Ronald Reagan. “He said, ‘I didn’t leave my party, my party left me,” Van Drew said. “I’m saying the same thing.”

The former Democrat pledged his support for Trump in the next election. “You have my undying support, and always,” Van Drew said. “By the way, same way,” Trump replied shaking Van Drew’s hand and adding, “I’m endorsing him."

President Trump is NOT a career politician, either. He IS a patriotic businessman who understands that the country comes first.

*****************

True but Trump is a small vessel in a vast and turbulent sea of corruption, greed, and malfeasance. The greatness of this country is being systematically squandered by venal politicians and bureaucrats who are intent of capsizing our patriotic president.

The U.S.S. Barr is our only hope. If he fails to hold the cabal accountable the republic is done for.

Between you and I, i’m of the mindset he’s going to be a good one. As we both know time will tell.

Looking forward to Hardball and the NY Times article highlighting Van Drew as a “man of conscience” similar to what they did for Amash, Spectre or Jeffords.

Writing it as we speak, no doubt. /sarc

Because most democrats sound a lot like Republicans...when they campaign

Lots of Republicans sound like Republicans — when they campaign. After the election is over its often a different story.

Will the Kennedys give him a “Profile in Courage” award?

We know the answer to that.

I give thanks to God that He put President Trump into our White House. I am grateful that President Trump had the wisdom to appoint Mr. Barr to the AG slot. I am also happy that AG Barr saw fit to place John Durham in charge of the investigation(s) pertaining to the on going attempted Coup D’Etat.

Also a shout out to our Founding Fathers for the Second Amendment and to Eugene Stoner for some fabulous tools!

“Is it now 17 seats we need to flip for control of the House?”

But will New Jersey elect him as a Republican? I have my doubts.

Same here.

Halfway through Reagan’s first term, flipped.

My family had been Democrats forever *but* we were incredibly “right wing” God fearing, gun toting people.

Like everyone else, the party left us, first.

There are Dems who are Dems because their people have always been Dems.

It’s hard for them to see what’s happening to their party due to blind loyalty and the innate ability of Dems to lie and seduce with sweet words and empty promises.

Many of them are decent conservative people who fear leaving the safety of what they’ve known, probably for generations.

It doesn’t help that we’re called nazis/fascists/whatever all time.

Psychologically loaded trigger words are very effective.

Happily, Trump knows this and has turned the Dem game around on them.

Hope for more “defections”, whether politicians or plain folk.

Pray for a great awakening.

He won NJ's 2nd Congressional District in 2018, as a democrap, with 136,685 votes, to Seth Grossman's (R) 116,866.

The NJ 2nd Congressional District covers the southern end of NJ, which includes Atlantic City and Camden (que Ben Kenobi intoning that you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...). The demographics of the district are:

Median income‎: ‎$65,467
Population (2017)‎: ‎713,380
Ethnicity‎: ‎75.3% white; 12.7% black; 4% Asian;

In 2016, it went 50.6% Trump / 46.0% Demon from Hell

He talks about blue dog dems and being moderate. He’s relatively new to politics and came on after dems were even close to moderate so am having a hard time giving him a free pass on his explanation. His votes will tell.

Ha!

But I really liked Alan Rickman.

Funny part of that is, they said they were gonna count to 3 for that scene and then drop him but didn’t and his look of terror and shock was real.
