It’s Official: Rep. Van Drew Flips Republican and Pledges ‘Undying Support’ for Donald Trump

Democrat Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey officially announced his decision to switch political parties and pledged his support for President Donald Trump on Thursday.

“I believe that this is just a better fit for me,” Van Drew told reporters on Thursday at the White House. “This is who I am. It’s who I always was, but there was more tolerance of moderate Democrats, of Blue Dog Democrats, of Conservative Democrats, and I think that’s going away.”

Van Drew met with Trump in the Oval Office together with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Vice President Mike Pence to discuss his decision. Trump called his decision a “big deal” noting that it had been about ten years since a member of Congress switched parties to become a Republican.

“It’s a very big deal,” McCarthy agreed. “Because he’s going from the majority to the minority. It normally doesn’t go that way.” “Yeah, but he’s very smart because he knows it’s not going to be the minority for long,” Trump replied. “I have a feeling we’re going to do very well in 2020.”

Van Drew noted that one of his political heroes continued to be former President Ronald Reagan. “He said, ‘I didn’t leave my party, my party left me,” Van Drew said. “I’m saying the same thing.”

The former Democrat pledged his support for Trump in the next election. “You have my undying support, and always,” Van Drew said. “By the way, same way,” Trump replied shaking Van Drew’s hand and adding, “I’m endorsing him."

The whole #WalkAway thing works a lot better if they’re greeted with open arms rather than clenched fists.

A RINO at best, but we’ll take the vote.

People can and do change. I read the transcript of Pres. Trump’s very gracious welcoming of Rep. Van Drew to the GOP, and believe our new recruit should be given the benefit of every doubt.

I wonder if Rep. Collin Peterson from Minnesota, the other Dem defector, could also be flipped? There are lots of good conservative people in Minnesota once you get outside the Twin Cities — and Rep. Peterson’s district went massively for Trump in 2016.

Rep. Peterson must be getting a lot of hate mail but I’m not reading anything about it.

“We need to keep on eye on this guy. I really have a hard time trusting party jumpers.”

Trump jumped parties several times.

Republican (1987–1999, 2009–2011, 2012–present)

Democratic (until 1987, 2001–2009) Reform (1999–2001) Independent (2011–2012)

Yeah, it’s not an easy thing for some people. I was a “democrat” in my early adult life. Then I became a “republican”. Now, I self identify as a Constitutionalist.

Neither one of the privately owned political parties (UniParty, in fact) puts the interests of our Constitution, Bill of Rights or sovereignty above their own considerations.

No. We have 200 and we need 218.

Why do you think we only need 17?

President Trump is NOT a career politician, either. He IS a patriotic businessman who understands that the country comes first.

Senator Gramm is one who comes to mind. Archer is another.

We better hurry up, we’re being flooded with third worlders.

**************

Prolly too late now. The flood is here and rising.

Trump is a “lveee” but can only hold back so much while he’s in office. Both sides of congress seem intent on opening the flood gates.

>>>Isn’t this the POS that stayed Demonic to vote FOR the impeachment, then changes his a “Trump-supporting” RINO the next day? Yeah, this is the kind of scum we need<<<

NO, he stayed a Democrat so his Vote would count as a Bipartisan rebuke of the Impeachment Articles.

The very idea that he would switch Parties joining the Minority is simply amazing in the world of Politics. I have no recollection of that ever happening.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. He may well be the last Blue Dog Democrat I will see in my Lifetime. I met and had a wonderful conversation with Zell Miller at CPAC years ago. He was the only Democrat I ever met who put America over Party Ideology.

Looking forward to Hardball and the NY Times article highlighting Van Drew as a “man of conscience” similar to what they did for Amash, Spectre or Jeffords.
