The Speaker always invites the President to do a SotU. It’s tradition.
Remember when POTUS wanted to do it but couldn’t because she hadn’t invited him?
Actually the SOTU has only been given directly to a joint session in a speech for just over 100 years (minus Hoover) starting with Wilson. Prior to that it was typically delivered in the form of a letter. It’s evolved into more of a speech to the American People then to Congress as Radio and TV made the deliveries more available.
I was kinda hoping that POTUS would turn Pelosi down stating he would instead deliver the traditional report in keeping with the founding practice and speak directly to the people on what the report said.
I know she does, but if she’s impeaching him....... maybe he won’t be President in February. Don’t make me explain Monnbattery to you, young lady! :P
