That there are scoundrels in government will come as no surprise to anyone. All governments. Always have been and always will be, despite our best efforts to remove them. They are like cockroaches, the ultimate survivors. Scoundrels, like a virus, hijack the nominal purpose of government and use it to their own ends, entrenching their positions, lining their pockets, and growing their power.
All societies have sought to eradicate scoundrels in government through various measures, a hopeless but necessary effort. These measures work to some extent, but the end result is just to select for sneakier and craftier scoundrels in a Darwinian manner. The rats learn to play the game better and still end up running most of the structure, if not all of it.
The most effective, though certainly not foolproof, method attempted to date was hit upon by the framers of the U.S. Constitution. The founding fathers stumbled upon a great idea to keep dishonest people away from the levers of power. They subcontracted the job out.
A watchdog within the government structure will sooner or later be corrupted. So the framers set up a free and independent press to sniff out scandal. Nothing sells papers like scandal, and scandalous behavior of those in power is the juiciest scandal of all. The free press was created with a built in financial incentive to find and expose scoundrels. Journalists are, in effect, paid by the rat for every rat they catch and display for public scorn.

Thanks, I knew someone here would know the history. It makes sense now, Yugoslavia was formed after WW1 and the existing monarchy of Serbia used for the entire country. I bet the Croats weren’t happy with that.
They should have "TRUMP" in huge letters - you know like he does on all his properties. That would likely push the libs and the media completely off the ledge.

My Dad came from a long line of Serbs. His parents came to America and he was born here. His older brother, my uncle was named Peter after King Peter of Yugoslavia. King Peter actually made a visit to Chicago and talked with the steelworkers and my Dad got to hear him. He was in exile. It made a big impression on my Dad. King Peter told the You are in American now, be Americans.
Even during the Communist period the Serbs dominated even though Tito was a Croat/Slovene.

Yugoslavia was created after WW1 centered on the pre-existing kingdom of Serbia, with the addition of territories annexed from various members of the Central Powers. Tito came to power after leading a successful resistance to the Nazi occupation in ww2.

Serbs are Orthodox and the Croats, Catholic.
The Serbs were more kindly disposed towards the Muslims, having been overrun at various times by either Catholics or Muslims, because the Catholics tried to convert them by force *and* impoverished / starved them; but the Muslims wanted them to do well enough that the jizya tax would be worth collecting.
Also, Gavrilo Pricip was a Serbian who killed the Archduke Ferdinand (and started World War 1) because he wanted to join a "Serbian / Yugoslavian" nationalist group called The Black Hand...but they originally wouldn't let him because he was too scrawny (among other things, he had tuberculosis). The assassination was his way of proving, that he "was too, good enough."
