BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday that she opposed U.S. sanctions on companies building the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline because they have extraterritorial effect.

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday passed legislation to slap sanctions on companies building the massive underwater pipeline to bring Russian natural gas to Germany, but it was uncertain whether the measures would slow completion of the project.

It is none of our business, but all of the profits go into the Russian oligarch hands, and into Russian tax revenues. So the Germans are financing the bulk of Russian tanks, subs and nuke missiles. Why bother having NATO around?

Nord Stream 2 gives Russia the ability to bypass completely the countries in the EU (all that sit between Russia and Germany of course) it now has to pay transit fees to for passing through. I’m sure those countries are not particularly excited about that possibility.

I simply despise Marxist Angela Merkel, she is anti-American. Of course, that’s nothing new for the German Left. But, Merkel is on her way out (before 2021) and determined to leave a foul mark. Germany has sucked at the teat of America for far too long. I say, good riddance to bad rubbish. I know I’m in the minority with that view, but it is nonetheless my position.

“NYC has shortage of natural gas existing supply is unable to cover”
Thar is a self-induced shortage as NYC Marxist Gov. Andrew Cuomo is backing an ambitious push toward renewable energy sources and has opposed new pipelines for natural gas.

By German terms Merkel is a conservative. And I am not kidding. As for transit countries you are right but once again it was in their interest not to obstruct transit by setting unreasonable fees to start with.

What Russia and Germany do, is between Russia and Germany.
....................................
Ask the Poles about that.

This time they’re going around Poland and Ukraine. It really is between Germany and Russia and NOT any of our business. IMHO, of course.

We could kick Germany out of NATO. But, of course, the Real reason for NATO is not to kepp Russia out of Europe, but to keep Germany from starting another war. I’m not sure that worked - the E.U. Exists.

Yes. NATO is past its “sell by” date.

This is McCain/NeoCon policy being enacted, to the detriment of our nation’s power & influence in the world.

We could kick Germany out of NATO

Better yet, let them stay in NATO and we leave. Since there is no provision for expelling a member anyway but nothing prevents a member from leaving.

Nordstream I and II will make Germany into the transit hub and broker for a massive flow of Russian natural gas. For Germany, this offers to be both immensely profitable and strategically opportune with a German-Russian alliance to displace NATO and tether Germany and the EU to Russia. America cannot accept such a development without alarm because it upends the NATO alliance and the strategic calculus that has preserved the peace since World War II.
