MILAN/PARIS (Reuters) - The board of French carmaker PSA (PEUP.PA), the owner of Peugeot, approved a binding agreement for a $50 billion merger with rival Fiat Chrysler (FCHA.MI), a source close to the matter said on Tuesday.

A separate Fiat Chrysler (FCA) board meeting was under way to discuss finalizing the memorandum of understanding to create the world’s number four carmaker, the source added, in a deal that would reshape the global car industry.

Both companies declined to comment.

Peugot made great cars, I had two 505's a turbo gas and a turbo diesel. They ran great, very comfortable and super strong build for safety, the only draw back was that everything in the engine compartment was made to be worked on by tiny French hands. They pulled out of the US market when the emission standards and requirements got so ridiculous.

Obviously they are still quite successful if they can put that much money into bailing out that epic failure Chrysler has become. Mercedes was at least smart enough to dump their partnership before they bleed out too much.

Yes, they once made some good, not great, but decent cars.
No more.
They also made the INFAMOUS Peugeot-Renault-Volvo engine for DeLoreans, which no one could work on.

IMHO Mercedes only got in bed with Chryslar so that when they divorced a few years later Mercedes could take and keep the Freightliner truck division in the divorce settlement. That included the Sprinter vans, too. So now there are 2, maybe 3 identical vans available, except for trim and logo differences. Benz, Freightliner and Ram.

Ferrari & Lamborghini are Italian, not French as you posted.

In addition, Lamborghini & Bugatti are a part of the German VW Group.

I don’t believe the Grand Cherokee or the SRT or the Trackhawk has anything to do with Fiat.

But Lamborghini was owned by Chrysler at one time from the late 80’s into the 1990’s

From Wikipedia

American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini in 1987 and sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V’Power Corporation in 1994.

There's already at least one ambulance-chasing firm getting set to sue FCAU regarding the Fiat takeover of Chrysler some years back, and more to come regarding the value of the offer (last I knew it was to be a stock swap) for Peugeot.
