He used the word retard. It's much ado about nothing and the reaction is getting really stupid. Drama queen media. The team sucks so they cowardly cut him. I say bring the issue to a head during the Super Bowl week when the whole nation will be watching. MAKE FUN of all sacred cows a la Trump. Think Harry Callahan in the first Dirty Harry flick. For those who need context, Jenkins is a (former) New York Giant football player who was cut for calling an annoying fan a “retard”, and then refusing to apologize afterwards.

Ben come on! Think Tim Ryan getting suspended for saying Lamar Jackson’s dark skin makes it difficult to follow the ball during handoffs. Think Cam Newton getting scolded for saying good question ‘coming from a woman’. Then there’s Kapernick. The owners are torn between letting him have his say and paying him off when he can’t play(debatable). White are the owners-power structure- but blacks ARE the game.
Let’s not forget the Tom Brady suspension over inflated footballs. Owners had it both ways. A suspension in the early part of the season when nothing counts. Would the ‘power structure’ allow a suspension that affected the playoffs? Come again.

1968 was the most turbulent year my lifetime. 2020 will come close or exceed it. The Super Bowl will be held on Feb. 2. Start the new year off with a bang during Black History month. They are required to talk to the media ‘so I won’t get fined’. Then they get fined/fired for saying the wrong thing, something the rest of us may not agree with. When you ask for an opinion expect the whole package. What’s wrong with that?
I think he had a year to go. 5 year signed in ‘16. Jrnkins wanted off the team and knew Mara would cut him if he behaved badly. It took sevrral efforts, calling out the D line, correctly BTW, calling out D coach’s schemes. When these didn’t work the Twitter argument calling the guy a retard. Even that didnt work so there were two bogus attempts to apologize. That did it. Wouldn’t surprise me if the target of the Twitter comment was working with Jenkins all along.

I'm fine with him being cut. Just apologize, even the smarmy apologize if anyone was offended variety, and leave it at that. But Jenkins could not and it's a common thread among too many NFL players that whatever wrong it is, is their culture and therefore is perfectly fine on that basis.

Many hours later Jenkins tweeted out a weak apology, saying, “My apology for the word I used earlier. Really didn’t mean no “HARM’’.’’Then on Thursday at his locker this happened:
Pressed about his slur, Jenkins said, “Where I’m from we use all kinds of words for slang, if it offends anybody, I’m sorry. It’s a culture that I grew up in where I’m from, you understand, we use all kind of words all kind of slang. If you don’t know, it’s a hood thing. Whatever. Not calling nobody no name, pick on nobody. It’s just something we use in the hood or back at home.’’

“Because I really didn’t see it as so bad until people like y’all started picking it up, making stories, so I just decided to apologize,’’ he said.
Giants officials did make it clear to Jenkins it was wrong.
“At the end of the day, it is just part of my culture, part of my slang that I use,’’ Jenkins said again. “I wasn’t calling nobody no name, like I said. I wasn’t picking on nobody, I wasn’t throw shade at nobody. It’s just slang that I use back at my homeboys.’’
But do you understand why that is a word that should never to used? Do you regret saying it?
“Yeah, I regret it, but at the end of the day, it’s my slang, if you take it like how you are going to take it, that’s on you,’’ Jenkins said. “I don’t mean to offend nobody. My dad always told me speak freely and own up to what you say so I always speak freely as a man.’’
Asked if he would continue to use the word, Jenkins responded, “Next question.’’
