It Has To Be Historically Accurate

While most would want their cabin to be modern enough to at least have power and a functioning bathroom, Richard wasn’t having it. He stressed that he would keep the cabin as historically accurate as possible. That meant that there would be neither plumbing nor electricity. historical cabin

A Log Cabin in the Woods/Facebook

As Richard explained it, not installing appliances saved him a lot of money, and the cabin wouldn’t be a place for someone who didn’t feel like roughing it out in rural Missouri. And yet even though the cabin’s wood was rotten and it’d ultimately be easier to just create a brand new cabin, Richard had a clear vision as to what to do with

I’m not one for roughing it in nature. I love my civilized comforts and my creature conveniences.

The 3 barns on the small farm we bought were built in the 1860’s.

We tried to save them. After the 3rd barn restorer walked by “Tear it down” like the contractors in Bill Blanding Builds His Dream House we got the message.

Our family homestead was built in 1830 in the southern tier of NY. One of my “greats” bought it from the Hudson Bay Company before 1830. The paperwork is there. I think there was a log cabin there first. Mom and my brother’s family still live there.

Personally I’d have brought in a bulldozer and trucks to haul off the shack....then I would have brought in either a prefab or had a professional log cabin built there. I would be paying for the acreage and the view.

But that’s just me. I appreciate antiques as much as the next person.

bought the ‘cabin’ for $100 and then moved it to a different property and it cost him $40k - no electric - no plumbing - plus the guy sounds like a loonie

Icepop.com is a very crappy website.

It kept hanging on me as it loaded ads and other crap-ware.

BTW, I don’t run adaware or other similar software as it consumes too many resources on my computer, and often hangs as much as it helps.

Decades ago (in the mid 60's) while visiting my bother in Nebraska, we were driving along and I commented about the quaint beauty of a huge leaning barn that was standing alone out in a field.
My brother informed me that it was a county administrative building. Others apparently liked to 'look' of the barn too.
They had taken the barn completely apart, saving every board, etc, built a modern building and then reassembled the barn around it.

At 70, roughing it now, for me, is slow room service.

I knew a couple who were given a large chicken coup shack on several acres of land out in the country and transformed it into a home they called “Falling Inn”..... It was a shack of a home but they lived there as they worked to create a better life for themselves....and they ultimately did just that and left “Falling Inn” behind them years later.

I live in Maine.

Occasionally, I tell people here that my idea of “wild life” is the Las Vegas Strip.

Typical leftist hypocrite. Want’s to be one with nature, but only part of the time. Even the Amish, masters of living with nature, probably saw him as a kook.

And a shrink? Are the drugs he prescribes for his patients natural?
