When I was 16 a new girl moved into our community. She was a next door neighbor. In the country, that is a mile away. She was the prettiest thing I had ever seen.

IMHO she was inserting herself into the race by standing where she did so close to the runners. Others were waving and mugging for the camera. This guy went further than maybe he should have.
