Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Indiana, visited Montgomery, Alabama, last week to discuss a variety of topics with some local groups. During one of those stops, he discussed abortion laws in the state, as well as what he really thinks of pro-lifers, who make up half the country.
In May, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a bill into law which would make abortion and attempted abortion felony offenses except in cases where abortion is necessary in order to prevent a serious health risk to the unborn childs mother. (In actuality, the intentional killing of a preborn child is never medically necessary.) There are no exceptions for rape or incest. The law, however, has yet to go into effect because it has been blocked by a federal court.
Because of this bill, Buttigieg attacked Alabama legislators, calling pro-life laws an assault on womens reproductive rights. He voiced his concern that Alabama lawmakers are not following the law of the land which is, he says, Roe v. Wade. He also claimed that the majority of the American people support the legalization of abortion and that pro-lifers are ignoring science, criminalizing abortion, and punishing women. Hes wrong on every point.
Anti-Science
Buttigiegs claim that pro-lifers are ignoring science is completely off the mark. In reality, pro-lifers know, thanks to science, that abortion intentionally kills a human being. Scientists and doctors have stated for decades that life begins at fertilization, but abortion advocates have chosen to ignore this. Medical textbooks dating back to the 1960s have said that there is one specific moment when every human comes into being: fertilization. And the scientific non-profit The Endowment for Human Development explained: fertilization is when an individuals unique set of DNA is created and a human signature that never existed before and will never be repeated is created. Advancements in technology have only served to further support this.
Its also been proven by science that preborn children feel pain. However, abortion advocates continue to deny this in order to protect the so-called right to abortion. But doctors who perform surgery on preborn children for conditions like spina bifida administer anesthesia to the babies prior to surgery in order to protect them from pain. Meanwhile, children killed by abortion are denied their humanity and denied pain relief as they are torn apart in D&E dismemberment abortions well beyond the point when they are capable of experiencing physical pain. In order to protect abortion in the second and third trimesters, abortion advocates have chosen to ignore the scientific fact of when humans develop the ability to feel pain.
Punishing women
Pro-life laws like the one in Alabama in no way punish women as Buttigieg claims. In fact, the law in Alabama was sponsored by a woman and signed into law by another. The truth is that abortion is dangerous for women, not only carrying the risk of physical harm such as a perforated uterus and hemorrhaging, but emotional and mental harm as well. Abortion is known to increase the rates of drug use, alcohol use, depression, and suicidal thoughts in women. Coupled with the news that over 73 percent of post-abortive women say they felt pressured into abortion, it becomes clear that abortion is not something women want or need, and it is definitely not good for them.
What Buttigieg failed to mention about Gov. Ivey during his attack against pro-lifers is that when she signed the bill banning abortion into law, she said that it is vital to help mothers and their children, and asked those supporting the new law to foster a better Alabama in all regards, from education to public safety, adding, We must give every person the best chance for a quality life and a promising future. Those arent the words of a woman looking to punish other women, but rather, they are the words of a woman aiming to support other women as they face the challenges of pregnancy, birth, parenting, and adoption.
In addition, despite pro-abortion claims such as Buttigiegs, which say abortion is a right that women want, data from the Pew Research Center found that 58 percent of Alabama adults are pro-life and that 51 percent of those pro-lifers are women. If most of the pro-lifers in Alabama are women and abortion causes harm to women, it would seem that, in the state of Alabama, to be pro-abortion is to be anti-woman.
Most Americans support restrictions on abortion
Buttigieg, along with the other Democratic candidates for president, says that he will codify Roe if elected. He also supports ending the Hyde Amendment which prevents taxpayer dollars from funding abortion. He said this is what Americans want. Its not.
Most Americans support the Hyde Amendment preventing federal taxpayer-funded abortions, and dont want abortions to be committed on demand and without restrictions. According to a May 2019 Harvard/CAPS poll, more than half of all Americans actually disagree with the Supreme Court ruling of Roe v. Wade.
Law of the Land
As far as Roe v. Wade being the law of the land as Buttigieg says, the same could have been said about slavery, which was once completely legal. Just because a law exists doesnt make it ethically or morally sound. Describing legal abortion as the law of the land doesnt mean it has to be, should be, or will continue to be.

ignoring science
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the same people who deny basic biology....
Two sexes.
Male and female.
That’s rich - a butt-f+×*÷r pontificating about science.
Wisdom: “Be fruitful and multiply.”
Media: “ Be fruity and spend your money on our junk instead of kids. You’ll be so cool!”
Butt gig, what do they call someone who denies the science that explains the emptying of your genetic destiny down the cesspool of your ideology?
Smarmy leftist jack wagons always have anti names to call those who disagree with them.
Oh come on. Im sure that St. Buttplug, patron saint of science, will finally get his husband pregnant from inseminating his azz.
anti-breeder, anti-Christian, homofascist.
Lefties love to use “science” as a club to beat dissenters into submission.
This dude is as filled with hatred and ignorance as can be. Lord help us, these sodomites are sick.
No Mr Buttgig, you hate math and science most obviously.
Socialists gonna Goldstein their enemies
Science says its a BABY moron
Homosexuals inherently ignore science.
Science says if you want to live a shorter life with mental problems and aids and other life threatening and shortening diseases, homosexuality will do that for you.
Bingo
Where on the planet do the Democrat come up with these brainiacs
But they still want kids anyway!
Buttgig would presumably have no scientific issues with Mary aborting Jesus.
