The Ford 302 and the Chevy 283 weren’t too shabby either. I think the Ford 300 straight six could never die as well.

That was just a punched-out 289, I believe. But they run forever.
Chevy 283/307: Great engines, yes.
With Proper maintenance, those critters ran forever...
Had a 390 Mustang years ago, that thing was Beast. Scary fast, with no weight in the ass end. Jumped all over the road, but man, what a thrill.
