Georgian-born American artist David Datuna has eaten a banana used in an art work by Maurizio Cattelan, which had sold for $120,000 (£91,000).
The artwork, titled Comedian, was on display at Art Basel in Miami, one of the world's most high-profile art fairs.

Other than the obvious Dadaist provocation, there is something very Monty Python-absurd about this. I'll admit, I would have laughed, had I been there. :P

Searching For Clues was exhibited in the Hirschorn Museum and was offered at $85K.
It was a similar five minute makeup, but non edible

Maybe they can staple the banana poop to a wall and sell it for 240k.

Art stunts.
Like Banksy or is it Bansky’s stunt of the self-destructing ‘painting’ after it sold at auction.

This is exactly the sort of nonsense that Tom Wolfe parodied.

>>The banana was swiftly replaced and no further action will be taken against Datuna - who said eating the banana was his “art performance”.
Readymade art isn’t about the item being exhibited. It is about the name attributed to the item being exhibited. The value of the item is whatever it costs to buy a replacement from the store.

If an artwork of a banana is called “Comedian” drop the peel on the floor and get on with the show!

LHOOQ/LO6HOOQ. :P?? Y'got me. Although, IIRC, the :P is a wry smile. But I'm drawing a blank on the main message.

How long did the buyer expect the banana to last?

Not to worry, the banana that was eaten was a reproduction meant to foil art thieves. The real banana and duct are safely locked in a vault.
