Creators of the popular video Baby Shark, whose doo doo doo song was played at the World Series in October, are developing a version in Navajo.
Pinkfong, a brand of the South Korea company SmartStudy, announced last week it is working with the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Arizona, to create a new version of the widely popular tune about a family of sharks.
The company is seeking voice actors to portray the roles of Baby Shark, Mommy Shark, Daddy Shark, Grandma Shark, and Grandpa Shark.
The Baby Shark Dance video has garnered more than 3.9 billion views on YouTube.
The Navajo Nation is the largest Native American reservation in the U.S.

Must be land sharks.
Maybe the Cleveland Indians can pick it as there theme song.
Because Navajo were deeply influenced by the sharks of Arizona and New Mexico?
I wonder what word they will use for shark on the Big Rez since there aren’t any. Probably something that equates to giant-predator-fish-larger-than-a-trout-with-big-teeth-that-swims-in-not-fresh-water. If they can put that to the same music used at a sing it will be a winner. It could go viral or hantaviral.
Baby Skinwalker?
LOL
They should hire the South Park guys to do this version.
That’s weird. Wonder what the real story is, and whose palm needed greased and why.
Has this thing been approved yet by Liz?
Theres a Star Wars movie ( a new hope) dubbed in Navajo. Its close to the original dialogue. Some parts of the dialogue in Navajo made me lol. I liked it. Ive heard theres a Finding Nemo Navajo version but I have not found it.
The word for shark translates to Arrowhead fish based on the triangular dorsal fin protruding from its back.
Bonus info. A catfish is called fish with a moustache.
Baby Shark is such an insidious, supremely-annoying earworm that it could easily be weaponised. :P
My kids learned “Baby Shark” as part of an ocean themed VBS 20-some years ago, so it’s not like it’s a new thing. Funny that it suddenly became so popular.
The Navajo language isn’t being passed down the generations. It was so unknown, hence the code talkers (other NA languages, too) back in WWI. Can’t see how many NA millennials would understand movies without closed captions. But, hey, diversity is soooo waaaay coooool!
Im Navajo. I see some kids successfully learning it. Mostly in the core of the reservation. Sure its a bit tough but doable. I can speak it ok. I can understand it fluently. Theres even a King James Version bible in Navajo. I can read that good. When I was growing up, we had 2 white traders who ran a trading post in our store who spoke it fluently.
Not saying there aren't some who keep the culture, tradition and language alive but take those few and subtract those who would care to see the new Baby Shark movie. That number is far, far less than would make it a box office hit or even meet costs.
